    Sense-of-Wonder Travel Campaign?

I'm reminiscing about the voyage of the dawn treader. I think you'd want to design a particular kind of PC for this sort of game. What kind of things do you yearn for? When your fellow travellers head off for the horizon, what keeps you together?

What are the tools for Home Brewing a World?

Designing Situations (TRAPs being one method for that) is useful in a game because Situations are designed to be interactive, and that's what the game is about. If you're designing a world for the purpose of a game, then this is what you should focus on. If you're designing a world as a...

Hey Woas, you can't receive PMs so here's this: Send me an e-mail, I'm doing something with skype and player-designed worldbuilding that you might find cool.

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

The short answer is: All of them. My experience, and this is echoed on most boards, is that D&D is VERY well balanced at 6th level (or in the 6th-8th range). I haven't tested a lot of extraneous classes (although warlocks pop up frequently in my games). So the long answer is: All of them...

I hope the above 3 examples answer Psion as well.

What are the tools for Home Brewing a World?

What I recommend as a guideline is "think about play" Bad 1 (GM is making a world without considering play): "Well, a society at this technological level would have gaslight. Oh, and that means some piping underground. Well, just in case it ever comes up, I'd better map out the piping system...

What are the tools for Home Brewing a World?

Buzz has me right - it's about priorities. If you're creating a world primarily for a game, then the time you spend should feed right back into that game. If your game is about a particular dungeon under the city of Ptolus, detailing the family tree of a noble family that lives on the...

What are the tools for Home Brewing a World?

I think a lot of the advice in the resources above is good, but some of it is terrible. Anything that tells you to make a bunch of inert windowdressing is bad advice (i.e. writing a history for a country just so you have it, even when your campaign doesn't really involve that country's...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

As for the rest, you roll Might when you're attacking with a big axe, you roll Insight when you're trying to find a secret switch or cast a spell, you use Style to impress a crowd.

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

Players roll all the dice has been awesome in my games. It will be even easier to implement in 4e. Basically all you need to do is convert NPC's Stat + DM's Roll vs. Player's Static # + Player's stat into NPC's Stat + DM's Static # vs. Player's Roll + Player's stat So long as you're...

Microlite20 : the smallest thing in gaming

My players want to keep hit points and in terms of translateability I can see why. We'll be in level 1-6 territory, maybe 1-10 tops. So we'll still have 1d8 damage on a longsword - but we'll be going 1d6 on the magic missile (since it's resisted now).

You know, EN World is really where it's at, IMO. Sometimes you have to pump some extra juice into it though.

    Campaign Ideas

Recipe for disaster: 1. players make characters without any relation to other player characters 2. players are told they should act according to their character 3. GM tries to make everyone a cohesive party Best way to solve it is change 1. That way 2 means that the GM isn't the only one...

    Campaign Ideas

Think of it like this: "Hey, can you guys head in direction A?" vs. "Hey, you guys can go wherever you want. Except if you do X, Y, Z, or basically anything besides A, I'm going to stop you. I assure you the forces keeping you from X, Y, Z, and any other letter you think of are powerful...

    Recruiting - World Building game

Fair enough. To anyone who's played it, this will be something like a long Teneting phase in Universalis, or a pitch meeting in Primetime Adventures with a bit of currency levelling things out.

    Campaign Ideas

OK, feel free to throw this comment in the trash, but I've seen versions of your plan in games I've played in. Usually it means your players will fight the guards, and it's basically starting the game saying "I'm going to railroad you guys into this, you have no decisions to make." A better...

    The Grand To-Do List

For me the main challenge more than the imminent new edition is the time factor: I've got a baby girl and most gaming requires major commuting. Those two aren't going to mesh well. The big thing I want to do before 4e arrives is do some online voice-to-voice gaming and make it work. That...
