Why don't giants rule the world?

Giants are hard to feed, as are dragons. Humans are relatively easy. You don't need to have a whole cow at dinner (Giants eat all the meat off the cow, dragons eat the whole damn cow).

    Everymen from Everywhere

Last name Wang, first name Wen Yi (When E Wong) is pretty common from both Hong Kong and Chinese immigrants in Canada. (Hence the prevalence of Wendy Wongs).

What's the cool way not to drink at a bar?

It's harder when you don't know people. This stuff tends to occur in the context of local meetup events. The last thing I want to be is "twenty minute conversation about the merits of alcohol consumption"-guy.

What's the cool way not to drink at a bar?

This question is exactly the one I'd rather avoid when a group of gamers heads to a bar after a session.

What's the cool way not to drink at a bar?

Inquiring minds want to know: What's the cool way not to drink at a bar?

    DM thanks

The ten foot gold idol was nice, but when they got me a harem palace of 120 carefully selected concubines, well... it got me all misty. I mean, when you use a number so often in your games, well, it's nice that someone notices. If my players are reading: *sniff* I love you guys.

What to do about inconsistant player interest?

Well, I think powergamers have more fun if they have fun tricks, and it sounds like melee is his thing. Book of 9 swords would do both for sure. Another justification could be "Some of the orb's power is leaking out, but it's cut off your connection with nature. Here's Book of 9 Swords."...

What to do about inconsistant player interest?

Another alternative is saying "You can expel the orb from your soul but you won't be able to tap into magic again" - and drop Tome of Battle in his lap, let him play a Warblade or whatever it is. I hear those are fun if you steer clear of Desert Wind.

What to do about inconsistant player interest?

I don't know what to do besides direct communication then. Maybe he feels like the game is all about him experiencing vicarious angst and he's not into it anymore. Maybe he just doesn't dig it anymore. If that's the case but he doesn't want to let people down, you could ask him if he'd be...

What to do about inconsistant player interest?

It's hard, players are notoriously difficult when it comes to getting them to tell you what they want. If I were you I'd send one of those internet quizzes to the whole group. Something like: Our PCs do things that are a BIG DEAL (Too often) (A little too often) (As often as I'd like)...

when the unimportant details are a little too interesting...

Here's two techniques to help run with it. Technique 1: Draw some circles in the middle of the page, like a Venn diagram. Label each with the name of something you don't know enough about. On the outside draw some more circles and label them with stuff you DO know about. Now see the...

I sent you an e-mail, but I think that this discussion crosses the no religion line.

OK, that makes me shudder for reasons I can't go into without violating the politics rules. Suffice to say this argument was actually used at one point justifying something in the real world.

    OD&D or RC?

There will be a lot of players dropping in and out of the campaign, so the 36-level thing wouldn't be RC's main appeal.

    OD&D or RC?

The OD&D to which I refer is 3 books, 1974. (All responses have been helpful so far, I'm still torn but leaning closer to OD&D, or more like, OD&D & some scissors and glue)

    OD&D or RC?

I have to admit that since I'll be strapping some blasphemous house rules on top. Mostly I'm looking for back to basics, and to turn what I can into "Roll d20, add some numbers." For brevity alone the OD&D appeals to me a bit more at this moment.

    OD&D or RC?

Diaglo - any comments on the sweet spot or PCs with a level spread?

    OD&D or RC?

OK, I've got both OD&D (1974 3 books) and the Rules Cyclopedia in .pdf form now, and I see the nostalgic appeal of OD&D but I hear good things about the completeness of the Cyclopedia. (Disclaimer: I was born in 1981) The main question: Which one's better for a campaign, and why? Extra...
