Well, at least you're not overreacting.
I'd love to see a setting book for FR. But I seriously doubt many people who purchased the PHB did so on the assumed condition that a 5E FR supplement would be released in the near future. And anyone who treated theirs well can surely still return it in...
Can you (or someone) tell me what is meant by "gestalt" in this context, if it has a clear meaning? I'm not familiar with it beyond the dictionary definition.
I agree with @Uchawi. The command spell says nothing about the condition "charmed", and the doppelganger is immune to the "charmed" condition. So it is not immune to this spell. I think stating that anything immune to the charmed condition is immune to all enchantment effects gives it too much...
I think those multipliers can overstate the encounter difficulty in some cases; perhaps edge cases. The goblins have 4 HP, so in most instances, they'll go down on a single hit. So their numbers drop quickly. There's no way the ambush with four goblins is beyond hard; and really, I'd say it's...
This is something that I just noticed last night. We'd been playing that spellcasters don't critical, even when their spells involve attack rolls. But as I read the rules, spells with attack rolls can crit. Was it this way in 3 and 4e too?
I like the idea of Legendary Actions, but so far the ones I've seen are along the lines of "more of the same". Which is fine, but not inspiring. However; the Lair Actions I've seen are game-changers... definitely inspiring.
Interestingly, I think your analysis of not having a second look is spot on in reaction to the playtest. It seems a lot of people were unimpressed with early renditions and just walked away. But many people seem to be having a second look now, which is no surprise. More than one reviewer...
The DM Basic rules are probably more recent; so I'd go with them. Honestly, just pick what you prefer if you find it to be an issue before the DMG comes out.
There's no doubt that their is some reason for their design choice, but I'd be careful not to over-interpret it. After all, the full "Dungeons & Dragons" name is right there on the front cover and has some prominence in that it provides the header for the bottom of the page.
It's perfectly...
Wizkids is releasing one in November.

At first I was skeptical, but you make a strong case that this spell is a legendary monster killer. Essentially, whether it saves or not is irrelevant, and as long as your companions can make contact, it's out of commission.
Good question. I'd say the former. Otherwise they should have said "any" or "a lair action". Either way, it does scale back what I'd been envisioning. I missed that line the first time.
[-]If they're not mounted[/-], they have disadvantage once their opponents close in on them.
Anyway, if they can hold their massive heads up, they can carry anything.
Edited: Fixed after Umbran's correction.
Those Lair Actions are truly Legendary! By the time you've defeated it, you're 1 year old, 50 years have passed, and you find yourself in Gehenna!
Also, plane shift certainly accounts for WotC's difficulty of holding the Sphinx on the website
