not disagreeing with you, just adding to the conversation. It was definite a change, but there were other changes that changed the mechanics of the game alot more.

3E wasn’t created to get rid of thAC0. It was one of several changes being made. I miss the roll under ability checks, thAC0 I do not miss.

I don’t think so. It has a proven record of not being a great setting for sales. The novels are great. But the setting was too tied to the novels. Although I would love to see it.

Um. We are taking about calculating thAC0. If you need a calculator for that then the education system failed you. Not that you are stupid, the teachers simply failed, learning disabilities an exception to that. Yes calculators have uses in higher math, thAC0 is not higher math.

I switched to 3E when it came out. Still like it. There are just things each edition is better at when it comes to certain types of settings. I’ll probaly bounce around from becmi 1E 2E 3.x and 5E til i die. And 4E with gamma world. I actually look forward to 6E and hope it’s a tweak like 2E was...

I wonder sometimes if it’s that the younger generation isn’t taught to do math without calculators. That’s not an insult to their generation, just educational system. Even when I was in high school taking Math we weren’t allowed calculators.

I definitely love 2E and everything that came before. and I think thAC0 going away was a good thing. It’s just not a deal breaker for me to play on an older edition with it. It’s pretty simple first grade math you can do in your head. I still prefer the roll under mechanic for proficiencies...

Those could be integrated well into 5E without redoing the whole system. Basically i like this.
