What is the essence of D&D

One thing I like about COC that I do alot in d&d is integrate the players into the community. They don’t want to get caught murdering or even killing someone because of the social implications. And i Do the same for the villains. They really don’t want to get caught. Just realized how many...

What is the essence of D&D

But what I like is not just creating a new feat. But just expanding the combat so there are maneuvers open to do within the rules without a fear system. In my opinion a genral attack should be generally the best action to take. And other maneuvers as the situation arises. I see alot of disarm...

What is the essence of D&D

Yes. The game has some interesting evolutions. I particularly liked the smash, throwing weapons, disarm, and parry rules in RC. I found the morale rules very helpful for facilitating roleplayjng. And the morale rules when used really made charisma useful. The rules for weapon mastery really...

What is the essence of D&D

One of the things I like about BECMI is they actually have no need for feats because there are alot of cool combat maneuvers built into the combat rules without even needing feats. There is a heck of alot more to the combat for people that take the time to read the rules on it. I actually...

What is the essence of D&D

Different levels of crunch for different people. Sometime I like pathfinder, sometimes I like 3d6 in order b/x or 1E/2E Ok. I burned out in PF a long time ago. Once everyone needed hero lab and a special session to just create their characters.

What is the essence of D&D

No feats and no multi classing reduces power gaming.

What is the essence of D&D

There were adjustments for size. But I think that is the main reason I still like 1E/2E better. It changed the combat dynamic more and I preferred melee. I am in no way demeaning people that like the way later editions do it. I just enjoyed the risk for firing into melee. The tension that I...

What is the essence of D&D

Not on a miss Anytime you fired into melee you had an equal Chance to hit whoever was in melee. If you had 6 People in melee you determine randomly who the arrow may hit before the attack role was even made. Page 99 2E PHB

What is the essence of D&D

Oh. I believe 1E and 2E were the same. But I am not sure at the moment. I liked it because it was foolish to try to use any ranged weapon against an enemy engaged with an ally. Once our group tied up a thief and hanged him upside down at camp overnight for shooting the fighter with an arrow...

Really go back to 2E firing into melee rules. It’s a wonderful thing.

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

Have u ever told a player that their favorite class or race or archetype is born allowed in the game? Does not always go over well

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

One of the problems in designing an rpg is that if it can be used for everything u end up having to tell players there are rules you can’t use. For example, no playing elves and dwarves. They aren’t in this setting. No vampires. Etc If you design with a specific setting in mind you can limit...

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

No game will ever be done exactly what everyone else wants. You can’t please everyone. Surprisingly I am not going to disagree with that. I think too many settings are too similar. I would love to see radically different settings.

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

Then why are u on a 5E board. The game has settings baked in the rules. You are not going to change that. Sorry you can’t divorce the rules yourself. It’s never ruined any of my settings and 1000s of others. I got an idea. Write WOTC or start a petition and tell them to stop it. That should do it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

Must be setting neutral for world building ? Really There have been 1000s of settings homebrew created.

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

I do not think d&d 5E discourages world building. I feel many players do my the disdain players have for homebrew. And there desire to be official and playing the right way. This mindset that it’s only correct if you are playing an officially published adventure is beyond me. It’s not the rules...

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

Now I like seeing clever mechanics created for new classes or archetypes that don’t step on the toes of other classes. Personally I think the holy assassin is best as a 1/3 caster and rogue archetype.

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

Very much so. We can always play a cleric with the criminal background reflavored and call that a holy assassin. Wanting new archetypes really isn’t about wanting a role playing concept. It’s normally wanting a mechanic from another class.

    D&D 5E (2014) Archetypes to add to 5e

i Think the problem is more the need that some people feel that they have to be doing something in a way that WotC/TSR approves of. People seem to want to playing Eberron orthodox or something. Some feel like they are doing it wrong to do it differently.
