    Narrative Space Options for non-spellcasters

I'm not sure this annoys my old-school sensibilities but it does still annoy me ;) It reminds me very much of Bill and Ted! Actually, in all seriousness, I can see how it would work in Leverage and think it's a clever mechanic for that game. One thing I did want to pick up on, however: the...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

I think this is fair. Throughout this thread I've come to the conclusion that a warlord-y inspirational class has a lot of merit. I'll admit I'm not convinced by the "shout him better" mode of healing but that's purely my personal preference. The discussion of HPs clearly shows there's a case...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

No worries :) Well it was really no more than a contrived example to help illustrate my take on class balance. I really do suspect we approach this from very different directions. I'm of the opinion that magic, being magic, will always have the edge over the mundane. The mundane is the...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

The rogue should be ... what? Is that missing words? It doesn't seem to make sense in the context  Ah! I think this is where our differences lie. In our hypothetical fight between a fighter and a cleric the cleric can't say to the fighter "Hang on a sec, I need to cast cure light wounds...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

Interesting. I'll swing by there when I get a chance :) I agree. D&D (and games based on it) have got better at the social "pillar" but ultimately it has been added with retrospect as the hobby has developed over the years. I think this is part of D&D's problem--and it's charm. It's a simple...

    Sorry, what does that mean?

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

True. And I think our opinions begin to divide here. My approach to this is roughly as follows: A cleric and a fighter of equal level should be evenly matched in a straight fight, provided the cleric has sunk their allotment of divine grace into martial prowess and prepared for the fight...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

So, is this then an issue of balance? It seems like you want mundane characters to have powers equivalent to those of spell casters?

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

That's fair enough. It doesn't really chime with my experience but I can appreciate where you're coming from :)

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

I view that as an implication of using a class-based game system. Fighters hit things. Wizards magic things. Thieves/Rogues sneak about doing stuff that the others don't. Admittedly, clerics kind of break things by being half decent fighters with support magic.

Season of Sexism #2: The Fake Geek Girl; plus Origins Award Winners, and Red Aegis' designer dream t

Yeah, that's clearly unhelpful. Of course, the flip-side of that (hopefully) is those who inadvertently present such ONE-TRUE-WAY-ism might learn something too.

I'm assuming in such cases those other people are expressing their own experiences of D&D. Is that not useful, by providing alternative perspectives and thus a different insight on something "known"?

This, I think, is the heart of the problem. I don't have an interest in My Little Pony. My sister played with these toys when we were children and they represented everything that I, as a "geek" child, stood opposed to. They weren't anything like my role-playing games. In a similar way, Pokemon...

Dragonspear Excerpts; Playtesting Dragons; plus new boardgame from makers of Small World

Gotta love these companies: "Were you aware that the Tarasque is a monster unique to Dungeons & Dragons?" No, because it's from mythology you idiots! The artwork claim is fair enough. Personally I think he should go the whole hog and dress it in Space Marine armour just to confound them :D

    D&D 5E (2014) Joke Material Components

There's the rub. This ties back to a post I made upthread about separating crunch from fluff. My ideal for such rules would be "generically fluffy crunch", so to speak, that illustrate the possibilities but all the "real" settings are separated out as modules. That probably isn't a...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

Now fencing is one sport I know a little bit about, although this would probably make more sense in the other thread I've been posting in...

    D&D 5E (2014) [Warlords] Should D&D be tied to D&D Worlds?

This is very much the disappointment I had with MeRP, it's magic system bears no relation to the subtle, mythical magic of the source material.

Well, even if we agree on nothing else we have this in common. I know next to nothing about UK sports. It's probably because I was born in Watford*. Solidarity brother :) * This is an equally obscure football joke that would literally have my sporty friends howling with laughter!
