    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

Ah. Thanks. Not heard of that before. Actually, no thanks at all as I've just spent the last twenty minutes playing it and expect to waste large quantities of time doing so in the future...! ;)

Gamehackery: What Does the Subscription Boom Mean to Gamers?

Well I, for one, totally agree with you. I'm not quite so sure traditional publishing is dead but it has certainly been affected by the rise of the Internet and digital media. It will certainly have to adapt, just as the music and TV/film industries. I've not seen much discussion of piracy...

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

Indeed. And the the answers to each question will vary from player to player. Personally, when I play RuneQuest or Call of Cthulhu I'm perfectly happy with the granularity of the d% system. I'm equally happy using d6s in Traveller and a multitude of polyhedrals for D&D and its various...

    Do You Read This News?

I also read the page most days. I admit to skimming some sections from time time but on balance I find the page useful and informative.

Gamehackery: What Does the Subscription Boom Mean to Gamers?

I think this is one of the reasons why the RPG industry is forever described as being in a state of decline. Buying a rulebook is really all that is necessary to play the game. The idea of homebrewing everything else is almost an inherent part of the hobby. It therefore doesn't surprise me that...

Gamehackery: What Does the Subscription Boom Mean to Gamers?

I'm glad I'm not the only Luddite here! ;) My consumption of PDFs has increased considerably since owning an iPad but I wouldn't want them to replace the physical books.

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

I've just realised Rolemaster/MeRP has both levels and d%-based mechanics and is arguably the biggest advert for the OP's point!

    Percentile Systems? Just Say No!

The d% systems I can think of (i.e. the ones I've played) all seem to be ones without levels or classes. I'd argue the additional granularity is important in such cases because of the way skills improve little and often rather than in defined jumps. Are there any d% systems that also have levels?

Gamehackery: What Does the Subscription Boom Mean to Gamers?

Some proportion of consumers, true, but without any figures it's nothing more than conjecture. I do agree that it isn't how I buy rule books or other game supplements. Ah, but in the case of Pathfinder the licence surely is the issue. The game is essentially d20 with the serial numbers filed...

Gamehackery: What Does the Subscription Boom Mean to Gamers?

I have a certain sympathy for your opinion but I have to agree with Radiating Gnome that the subscription model is not automatically bad for the consumer. It really boils down to whether or not the consumer believes the subscription is good value for money. I personally don't have any desire to...

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

Well done darkcyril. Thanks Morrus for running the competition, it was a lot of fun. Thanks also to the people who voted for Doctors & Nurses :)

    Anyone fooled by gargoyles anymore?

This, and consequences for hitting statues with weapons, as mentioned before. There may not be rules for weapon wear and tear but that doesn't alter the fact that smashing rocks with a sword is going to blunt, bend or break that sword fairly quickly. I'd argue even blunt weapons would suffer...

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

Isn't that true of any rpg, unless it's just a glorified combat fest? Having said that, MOP (I love the fact it has it's own abbreviation already) was very funny. It reminded me of "Hit a Dude", which won an ENnie so I can't complain if MOP wins this. http://hitadude.com/ Not that it should...

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

Hello! Here's my pitch for "Doctors & Nurses, the role-playing game of television medical dramas". When this competition was announced I deliberately set out to write a game that hasn't been done hundreds of times before. I looked around for a genre that had all the hallmarks of an RPG...

EditorBFG I feel your pain. I just re-read my entry back to myself and am cursing my utter lack of proofreading!

Cheers, I don't understand it either. Maybe because I was logged in via Facebook rather than directly? it's probably the forum software's critique of my submission. Haha!

It's The EN World 7-Day RPG Contest! $1000 Prize!

When Morrus announced this competition I set myself the additional constraint that I'd use a genre that doesn't seem to have any other RPGs. To that end I took inspiration from a friend of mine who's not interested in role-playing games at all. She generally rolls her eyes skywards when I...
