Unearthed Arcana New UA Paladin and Bard.

Compared to previous UA classes as far as inspiration goes, these are pretty MEH Mechanically, they both seem pretty solid and not particularly over/under powered.

D&D 5E (2014) Racial Ability Scores: Default Low Ability Score

Wouldn't it be better to just ask your players to play the more iconic races? Imagine rolling a 7. Now that player is not playing elf (or any race that has to put their lowest to CON), since they will be behind on the expected HP curve and likely dying. I mean if your players dig that, sure go...

D&D General Should a low level character know to burn a troll?

the notion of vampirism is way older than any of these things sure, I have it from those, but before there was oral tradition that relayed tales of terrible monsters and heroes as I said, it depends on what stories do regular people tell their children in your world

D&D General Should a low level character know to burn a troll?

I've never seen a vampire, but I know how I would deal with one from the many stories I've heard or read so I would guess it all depends on what your characters hear as stories in the world you play in

    D&D General Socially Acceptable Necromancers?

Honestly, that depends on how your world views death and corpses in general. Maybe necromancy is common or not all that weird. After all, the corpse doesn't really serve any purpose once the spirit leaves it, so why waste a good skeleton that can work without having to be fed or complaining...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e Sorcerer versus Wizard, which is better?

having 18 or 20 in main stat at lvl 1 for a caster (for martials it's a bonus damage which is very nice) does not have as big of an immediate impact as having a feat at lvl 1 caster taking a feat for a stat increase is usually not the best choice (barring maybe resilient, which comes with a...

D&D General Nominate your favourite D&D villain!

Surprised nobody nominated the Tiamat, so I'm going to. Bow down to your queen or perish in the multitude of breaths.

D&D 5E (2014) Bringing forward the capstone class features to 13th or 15th level

having significant bumps in power while your characters grow seems more fun to me than just adding another +X as I get more levels (ofc. casters still had their large bumps every time new spells unlocked) never played those, but if only advancement for non-casters was adding +1 to their...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e Philosophy of System Mastery

5E did a good job of rewarding the system master by doing a bit more damage/being more efficient while also making the baseline strong enough that you do not feel like a complete chump in comparison if you do not know the system so well I would say punishing them is giving them a whooping...

D&D 5E (2014) buffing human (and removing variant human)

I don't think anyone takes +1 to all anyway, unless you roll and all your higher rolls fall on odd numbers the change seems fine, humans still kind of pay a price by not having dark vision

    D&D 5E (2014) Overrated Wizard Spells

I mean fighters get this as a maneuver 4x per rest (with added d8 bonus to damage if they hit) and this spell costs you 0 slots and 10g, I would say it's still pretty amazing even if giving advantage only to 1 attack per round

D&D 5E (2014) Favorite or most Meh Capstone (or level 18)

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell Level Cap Below 9th

so you are pretty much ensuring that most people will roll a martial class, as this will not affect their power curve, but will significantly butcher that of a caster I suppose it is one way of doing it

D&D 5E (2014) Jeremy Crawford Discusses the Wild Soul Barbarian and Path of the Astral Self Monk

but they got rid of the restrictions that the generalist wizard avoided and as such they got rid of the need for a generalist the closest you can come to a generalist would be probably diviner, since portent is useable for pretty much anything and is in no way relevant to only spells and the...

    D&D 5E (2014) XP for Absent Players

I personally have no issues with players using their phones as long as it is game-related we have this vast resource of information of rules/rulings that can be quickly looked up to clarify thing, spells that can be clarified etc. personally I find it much easier to find what a spell does by...
