I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

Follow-up note: Having one culture to one race just makes running a game easier. With the exception of tables that vastly prefer role-playing cultural interactions over combat, the simpler a group is the easier it is to teach it to a table and keep it memorable. It's not a racist design...

I don't get the arguments for bioessentialism

In fictional worlds there's nothing wrong with exploring concepts that don't exist in the world, such as inherently evil races/ancestries/species/whatever-word-is-popular-now that can be killed on the spot. In fact, one of the things that makes fiction excellent is that is breaks from the real...

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

Glad to hear this testimony that they successfully built a system that works great for people who don't know the books at all.

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

The issue is that "important parts" clarification, because what's "important" varies widely from person to person, table to table.. Some people will read over these rules, get the surface level of the setting, and basically just do their own thing using the mechanics: making up characters, how...

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

This is true—without controversy, most people don't talk about something much.

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

Oof—I did forget to take into consideration just how early on everything is. Aside from the physicals for Stormlight not being out yet, Mistborn PDFs and physicals won't release until next year. The number of paths in that game is going to be absolutely lunatic...

    Does Anyone Care? (Cosmere RPG)

This is not intended to be a downer post—at least, I hope it isn’t. I don’t have time to play the Cosmere RPG, and, frankly, I’m not interested anymore. After backing that Kickstarter I discovered Shadowdark and fell in love. That said, reading through the Stormlight Handbook, I really like...

3PP Release New Release: Single-Class Synergy, Volume 2: Singular Specialists

Could I get a summary of what the chain does for each? I didn't see one when I followed the link.

Gate Pass Gazette Question about Arcano-Pugilist

Hi. I wrote the archetype. Short answer: @Sepulchre is right. As-worded, delivering your spells through your fists limits potential targets rather than expands as worded, as published. The version I allow at my table allows you to deliver spells with a target of Self to other creatures, though...

    Shadowdark Class: Rr'Dzi Animator

It ended up way more work than I had predicted! If I hadn’t gone the caster route I’d have cut the amount of stuff to do by more than half… But this class needed totally new spells, cribbing off the Wizard spell mishap table wouldn’t really work, the existing golems in the core rulebook were way...

    Shadowdark Class: Rr'Dzi Animator

Shadowdark doesn't have a pet class, and I really like pet classes, so I decided to try my hand at something. If you have any interest in checking it out and giving me feedback, positive or negative, see the attached document below! Pillars of Design: Jump off from the mount rules to create...

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

I’ll have to add it to my reading list.

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

Well, I’m slightly disappointed in that I was excited to finally have a pet class, but I’m still confident that Kelsey will make something excellent. And, as a forever-GM, I wouldn’t have ended up playing it anyway :P

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

I’m not able to watch the live stream now… What’s it look like? What features are we getting? @Whizbang Dustyboots is making me nervous… Not that I don’t believe in Kelsey’s ability to make an excellent class regardless of the direction she goes, but I was really hoping for a class with an...

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

Title had always felt superfluous to me. I’m not sure what it actually drives in-game. Even Background technically has mechanical effects—for reasonable checks connected to your background, you should be granted automatic success. It appears reputation is going to replace whatever the intent...

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

I would love something like that!

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

This is true, but if we’re specifically going a “Berserker” route, I don’t think we can avoid having at least a feature that is rage-like. There’s plenty of room to make it more interesting than just boosting attacks, of course.

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

Something I like about Shadowdark is how... specific(?) many of the newly announced classes are. Yeah, you've got eternal, broad archetypes in the game, like Fighter and Wizard and Bard, but Basilisk Warrior? That feels pretty uniquely Shadowdark. Camel Rider? All right, other games have mounted...

Shadowdark Western Reaches Stretch Goal: New Classes

I was very surprised that there wasn't a level 1 Druid spell that did exactly that. True, not all sources for druid inspiration have them turning into animals, but it's still extremely iconic... At least there's a spell that turns you into a tree. And Polymorph. But those come kinda late...
