    D&D 5E (2014) Beastmaster's animal companion: can it survive for 2 rounds?

So which edition would you want to revert back to to replace this feature? Pathfinder? Well that's no good, a ranger's animal companion is actually worse in Pathfinder than it is in 5E. At 5th level, the Ranger's animal companion will be the equivalent of level 2, as they get Druid -3. That...

    D&D 5E (2014) So who is playing 5E?

My group is converting from Pathfinder over to 5E. We're in the middle of a campaign, but I managed to convince them that the benefits of 5E outweighed the headache of conversion. Didn't take too long reading the basic rules and playing the starter set before they agreed. :P

D&D 5E (2014) Martial Characters vs Real World Athletes

They are better, just not at specifically that one thing the college level athlete is good at. I would say that world class/collegiate level athletes have "levels" in that one area. Michael Phelps is a 20th level Swimmer, Usain Bolt is a 20th level Runner. They are the best that any human has...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

I think that a lot of newcomers would be more gung ho about attacking a dragon since they don't know how powerful their characters are versus it, but I can say from an experienced player's standpoint there is nothing that would make me go up to attack that dragon besides knowing it was an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Hoard of the Dragon Queen - a solid D effort.

I've played the first part of this as a character with a friend DMing online, and I've been running it as a DM with some friends that are new to the game so I have a bit of experience with it. I started writing a long diatribe explaining how new characters enjoy some generic stuff, how they just...

    D&D 5E (2014) Death strike is grisly

I think the developers assumed if someone is already paralyzed or incapacitated they're probably going to be dead regardless in a few seconds. Not an excuse, but a reason for the omission. This isn't exactly that hard to house rule though.

D&D 5E (2014) Forging Arcane Focus or Holy Symbol into a Weapon or Shield?

I'd let one of my players do it. It's pretty much the same as having the holy symbol on a necklace around your neck and striking with a sword. I'd say the cost would be about double that of a normal weapon/shield + the cost of the holy symbol, but nothing more than that. Seems like a fun flavory...

An idea to make the game feel lighter

I guess I can see someone making a minimalist character sheet and doing it that way. (BTW, the actual character sheet is actually only one page long. There's a back and a second sheet, but they're used for background and spells respectively.) However, I think for most people, having to do that...

An idea to make the game feel lighter

I don't think that really streamlines the game very much. A lot of the rules codify exactly what each skill/save does, and having to recalculate it every time seems like even more of a hassle. Example: You have to roll your wisdom save. A person with it already on their sheet glances over, says...

    D&D 5E (2014) Beastmaster's animal companion: can it survive for 2 rounds?

My thoughts are twofold: One, 99% of the time in a group of 4, a monster is not going to even think about attacking the companion. It's going to attack the massive fighter/barbarian/paladin, or attack the ranger himself. All seem like worse foes than a lowly wolf or panther. Second, the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid 20 = Infinite Hit Points

So the Tarrasque just focuses on the rest of the group because the Moon druid even as an earth elemental is barely doing any damage. Then when the rest of the group is dead, the Tarrasque can simply do a war of attrition with the druid until finally the damage is too great.

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid 20 = Infinite Hit Points

At 20th level, a Druid with Circle of the Moon changes into a Mammoth (a CR 6 animal, the most powerful they can change into.) It gets, 126HP, 13 AC, +10 to hit and does 25dmg with its one attack per round (Any equipment is useless since the mammoth is so big.). A fighter at level 20 gets 4...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item design?

You're right, AC 17 is pretty low. Then again, that's exactly how the designers wanted it to be, so I guess that worked out huh? Like I said, difficulty isn't based on how hard something is to hit anymore, it's about how much damage it does and how much health they have. Probably no formula...

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid 20 = Infinite Hit Points

I think the general thought with D&D at high levels is "damn, you got to 20th level? Well here, have everything, because there's no way that's happening again." I've only ever had one campaign end with someone at 20th level, and while I'm working towards another, these current characters are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item design?

Probably attacks and armor, maybe saves, probably no skill checks. Although there's nothing stopping you from making exceptional magic thieves' tools. It'll be like AD&D: Magic items are super nice, but if you don't have any you can still be effective. The androsphinx only has a 17 AC, which...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM Minion 5E Released

I downloaded the lite version and so far I really like what I'm seeing. The only question I have though is will the resolution be modified at some point? It's kind of blurry to me, like it was designed for the 1st and 2nd iPads, but honestly that's my only complaint. Looking forward to getting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Necromancer Games 5E Monster Teaser #2 - The Aranea!

It says in the DM's basic rules that an encounter with a CR 3 monster against 4 Lvl 3 adventurers should be a challenge but result in no party deaths. That's pretty much all it says about it.

    D&D 5E (2014) I NEED A WARLORD

I honestly don't see how they're any different from Warlords. In fact, a class entirely devoted to Warlords would be extremely redundant. What is it that you want specifically with warlords that Battlemaster's don't have? The ability to control the location of enemies on the battle? Nope, they...

    D&D 5E (2014) Necromancer Games 5E Monster Teaser #2 - The Aranea!

That's not a 5th level cleric, that is an NPC Priest with 5 HD. A 5th level cleric would also have a channel divinity as well as about 4 extra spells from their domain, not to mention at least Scale or Chain mail and a shield bringing their AC up to 16 or 18. And I don't totally agree that they...
