    D&D 5E (2014) Wealth by Level

Why is it necessary? There's only so many things that people can spend their money on, and since they got rid of buying magic items you don't have to worry about people getting gold just to power themselves up through magic. Doesn't seem needed to me.

D&D 5E (2014) Blog of Holding Takes on Treasure Distribution and 1 XP/1 GP

I originally wrote up a long counterpoint to all of this, but it's clear that I will never understand why anyone would want to do this as their base. For those of you that like it, I'm sure there will be some little module in the upcoming Unearthed Arcana series that addresses it.

D&D 5E (2014) Blog of Holding Takes on Treasure Distribution and 1 XP/1 GP

But you aren't awarding XP for any of those things. You're rewarding them for finding large cashes of gold, regardless of what they had to do to get to it. There are more than a few monsters in the monster manual that aren't supposed to carry gold. How do explain to your players that they don't...

D&D 5E (2014) Blog of Holding Takes on Treasure Distribution and 1 XP/1 GP

"Why not just give the experience value of the encounter if they manage to circumvent it?" This is why, as a DM, I don't give out experience at all, but instead allow them to level up when it seems prudent. To each their own, but none of this makes sense to me.

D&D 5E (2014) Blog of Holding Takes on Treasure Distribution and 1 XP/1 GP

That still seems... weird to me. What if the players don't care about the GP? What if they are in it for the adventure? My players enjoy the adventure itself more often than any reward, so I guess it comes down to personal preference. But if you're just trying to get people to do things other...

    D&D 5E (2014) Amazon's current ranking of the DMG.

The fact that we don't see stuff like that happen leads me to believe their algorithm is a little bit more complicated. :P

D&D 5E (2014) Blog of Holding Takes on Treasure Distribution and 1 XP/1 GP

I'm honestly rather confused as to why people want this as an option. For starters, it doesn't really make a lot of sense in the context of the world. As warmaster horus said, what happens when the treasure is all gone? What happens if the monster you fight doesn't collect treasure, like a yeti...

D&D 5E (2014) Again the Banishment spell ruined my game !

The urgency inherent in these posts by maritimo80 sometimes makes me wonder if he's playing under duress by the worst Rules Nazis in the world...

D&D 5E (2014) LMoP Item Reward Question - minor spoiler?

I agree with Boarstorm. It's just something cool about the item that, while having no in-game mechanical use, would be pretty sweet in real life. How many times do we find something like a new phone and marvel at how thin and light it is? Not to mention that there are numerous such things in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Feats *and* aibility increases

If you give a character a feat, he'll want an ABI to go with it. If you give him an ABI, he'll want a magic item to go with it. If you give him a magic item, he'll want to multiclass for free to go with it. If you let him multiclass for free...

D&D 5E (2014) Thieves Tools: Disarm magic traps?

In the DMG, they talk about magic traps being disarmed using Intelligence (Arcana) checks, not using thieves tools. This can be done by any character. Edit: Dang, I've never been that ninja'd before.

D&D 5E (2014) Again the Banishment spell ruined my game !

That's the thing. For me, making players happy is my definition of fun. Sure, there may be differing reasons for people to play D&D, but when it comes down to it, we all play it to have fun one way or another. Finding a way to have and give fun in all situations is a hallmark of a good DM.

D&D 5E (2014) Again the Banishment spell ruined my game !

As a DM, once I stopped worrying about balanced encounters, making all of them challenging, and just focused on the happiness of my players, it became a much better experience for all of us.

D&D 5E (2014) Tracking gold, consumables, etc as a DM

If you're worried that your friends will cheat in a cooperative story driven game, there are more serious issues at hand. Then again I did have someone "roll" 10 20's in a row on Roll20. Suffice it to say we never played with him again.

D&D 5E (2014) The DMG: Has it lived up to the hype?

Seems like they actually got quite a few of those in there. Like they said, it's a wish list, and they outright say they probably won't be able to fit all of those in the DM's guide or in the game in general until later. So to have at least 75% of them, that's a pretty good start.

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

I let someone borrow my monster manual, but I don't remember a lot of creatures having Evasion or Magic Resistance. Actually, is Magic Resistance even a thing? I thought it was just typing resistance like fire or lightning. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of creatures with typing...

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

I apologize, I was typing on my phone at work and thought it would be easier to type all in one rather than having to split between. I apologize if I broke any ENWorld rules.

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

Damage is only the most fundamental thing when the DM makes it so. For me, and probably for a lot of people, much of D&D consists of the other two tenants shown in 5th edition, namely, Exploration and Social Interaction. Combat is simply the most scrutinized and elaborated of the three, as it...

D&D 5E (2014) Increasing the power of spells?

That's a problem with conflating balance and niche protection. A perfectly balanced class by that standard would be a tautaulogy of that same class, with no differences down to the word. Niche protection is how balance is really handled in d and d, with people having their own abilities that...

D&D 5E (2014) The DMG: Has it lived up to the hype?

Well it was a joke, although after reading the Wizards boards, the estimation may not be too far off. In any case, I'm curious to see a quote of mearles or someone else stating the the DM's guide would be as such. I remember them saying they would include some modularity, but not that it would...
