D&D 5E (2014) Does the caster know if a spell target makes their save?

I can see it go either way, but agree on trying to be consistent. Even if a player knows how much damage they have done, does not mean a creature takes all of it. They may succeed on a skill roll and still not know if they failed. With a regular charm, you may not know if the creature is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Fifth Edition.....Why?

It is the same comparison when stating why does someone like an operating system like Microsoft, versus Apple, or even Linux. Based on that preference, you will be limited out of the door in regards to who else uses it, has experience with it, or continues to purchase or develop products for it...

    D&D 5E (2014) So Was That Z Fellow right?

The biggest detractors to games in general is complexity and lack of consistency. I believe 5E is somewhere in the middle, but based on its design it is much easier to detect mechanical choices that become preferred while others are placed to the side. With that stated, I would be reluctant to...

Over Half Of New D&D Players Got Into Game From Watching Online Play

Since everyone lives in their own bubble these days (gamers are notorious for this) I am not surprised WOTC is presenting a whole bunch of bubbles so a player can not only learn the game but identify the type of game they want to be in. That also ups the chance that one of the players will...

D&D 5E (2014) Come out and put yourself on the Gygax scale!

To survive the test of time G3 should be the goal, but then it goes up and down like the stock market. What I see break games more is different interests, i.e. what type of story does everyone expect at the table. And optimizer or role-player will both fail equally if they are not interested.

D&D 5E (2014) The "Powergamers (Min/maxer)" vs "Alpha Gamers" vs "Role Play Gamers" vs "GM" balance mismatch "problem(s)"

You care about the rules, or you care about the experience, either way they are not mutually exclusive. By wanting to place players (including the DM) in containers is the easy way out. The more interesting path is communication and collaboration. At the end everyone is a little wiser. Mind you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tenser's transformation and armor.

I can understand your sentiment, but they always seems to have a leash on martial ability. It is the litmus test to whatever realism is in the game, but casters are not held to the same standard.

The State of D&D: Products, Psionics, Settings, & More

For new players I imagine a typical D&D is the forgotten realms, for anyone that has played it gets more complicated based on what setting introduced you or which one you prefer. To limit it to genres is not doing a service for a specific setting. As to smaller budgets, less staff, etc. a slow...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tenser's transformation and armor.

I am more baffled by penalizing classes with extra attack, by not receiving at least 1 extra attack. A spell that penalizes a Gish that should be more powerful using it. Yet it grants a caster full proficiencies in armor, weapons, etc. and advantage on attack rolls.

    D&D 5E (2014) They Broke Arcane Archer!!!

Like anything else there is a price to pay for being the first to have something new. There are always bugs to work out, long lines to attend, higher price to pay, etc. Take you time and wait for the corrected version.

D&D 5E (2014) No good deed goes unpunished

The local monarchy, thieves guild, merchant guild, etc. catching wind of it demands the proper tithe, or just takes it. I imagine it is similar to lord of the rings when the hobbits return to the shire and find it has met some hard times. It is a nice touch to the scope and impact of global and...

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin: Why Are They Often Considered Highly Powerful?

I believe the one thing that brings a paladin to the forefront is efficiency. There is little waste when it comes to healing, damage or even utility. On top of that they not only fill gaps for certain roles, but enhance the party at the same time. I agree that auras are probably the biggest...

D&D 5E (2014) Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby

I can understand limiting content to third parties. But even a third party product that made it easy to add content would be stellar. However, it does irk me that D&D beyond is limited to SRD and you must buy everything else to unlock content. As I understand it D&D beyond is also developed by a...

D&D 5E (2014) Adding +2 ability bonus to all classes. Way to make all class/race combos more or less equal.

There is always going to be disparity as long as there are racial differences. If the goal is to be able to play any class, then remove the class restrictions on ability scores, including multicasting. This sounds more like wanting a racial features and optimum primary attribute. I am not sure...

    D&D 5E (2014) Duergar and "nonstandard" races

It is really a DM question and not a player's. I could take any race as a DM and make it interesting and compelling. I am not bound by evil always has to be evil, or vice versa with good. The character concept drives it, and it is pretty easy to tell when someone chooses a race based solely on...

D&D 5E (2014) What class do you think you want to play but never actually play?

Fighter. No matter how much I geek up about playing a classic, the class is much better when diluted with a multiclass to provide some choices.

D&D 5E (2014) What do you think of this WotC retweet?

An employer can be as diverse and/or inclusive as they want, but if job openings are limited then is the intent of a message like this to gain leverage? Even if the only influence is hoping a man may be chosen over a woman, or vice versa. At some point you are just going to have to trust that if...

    AD&D 2E Is 5e Basically Becoming Pathfinder 2e?

Pathfinder follows D&D, and D&D follows Pathfinder. That is expected since it shares the same type of game mechanics. Pathfinder is easy to break through the sheer amount of options, and 5E is easy to break due to quicker system mastery. These games overall still continue to have a sweat spot in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength bows?

They should have STR requirements for a lot of weapons, it would make STR more meaningful. It should also add to heavy armor AC.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why D&D is not (just) Tolkien

I believe it had a moderate influence as D&D grew from a war game to a role playing game. The concept of the adventure party, makeup, and class feel borrowed from Tolkien. I find it interesting that it was never a good model of playing in middle earth. It definitely is more than that and unique...
