I was a little confused by this: Because I recall flipping through a Japanese edition of the Player's Handbook at a hobby shop in Hiroshima in 2018. It seems more accurate to say that a localized Japanese version of the 5th Edition Starter Set is coming out this year.

Finally got around to reading this. Overall, I enjoyed it. I thought the quality of writing was decent when compared to other trash fantasy, although mediocre at best when compared to contemporary fiction in general. Only a handful of things bothered me:

I'm a little bittersweet on this. Part of me is glad that things return to normal, or better than normal now that SRD5.1 is CC. Part of me is sad that the blue-sky possibilities of a post-Hasbro world have been traded for another epoch under the dominion of a (hopefully) benevolent overlord.

Wonderful! My only comment is that this shouldn't be done in a vacuum. Kobold is rallying the troops, so (IMO) the best path forward is an industry partnership dedicated to releasing a truly open source game system.
