Spelljammer Dark Sun confirmed? Or, the mysterious case of the dissappearing Spelljammer article...

I’m considerably more pessimistic. I received, as a gift late last year, the original Dark Sun boxed set - it was a joy to revisit, but what struck me was how much of the setting felt bound to the 2e rule set. It was a bit of a bummer, but I came away with the feeling that it would be easier to...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e isn't a Golden Age of D&D Lorewise, it's Silver at best.

I suspect it also speaks to how most of D&D is played in generic fantasyland / the Forgotten Realms, and even if other settings are beloved, it's harder (at least in my experience) to get players onboard. You can bring in a first time player, tell them, "Have you seen the 'Lord of the Rings'...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e isn't a Golden Age of D&D Lorewise, it's Silver at best.

...now that I look, there are multiple posts on reddit with requests for / homebrew rules for playing a sentient hat in D&D, and a few with requests for a sentient hat warlock patron. There has to be some cultural reference here that I managed to skip.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e isn't a Golden Age of D&D Lorewise, it's Silver at best.

I was actually musing on this the other day - it’s interesting to see D&D turn into effectively it own somewhat self-referential genre. My fathers well loved copies of Tolkien, Howard, Leiber and Leguin were tent poles of my adolescence - when I was first handed the 1e DMG in middle school, my...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5e isn't a Golden Age of D&D Lorewise, it's Silver at best.

That’s fair, but I’m not sure how else to gauge it. My gaming group in the 90s didn’t care about Spelljammer at all, but I have no clue how representational we were - I really just have a sample size of 1. …then again, based on the number of people on Reddit exclaiming “OMG! A playable ooze...

Would you say that it’s possible for a corporation to act in an ethical manner, distinct from the actions of the people who make up a company? edit: I should say: as much as I enjoy a good discussion on normative ethics, we are awfully far afield of the question of 'do we have enough lore or not'.

Oh, rad! I did a BA at a small Catholic college in America, and an MA at KU Leuven in Belgium. More phenomenology than ancient, but I'm very much a product of Catholic education. Like can often apprehend like, I suppose.

Somewhat off-topic, but I'm curious - did you go to school for philosophy? Given that you and I have debated what counts as D&D substance vs. accidence, I'd assume so; but I had wondered.

I would agree with that. The sales numbers for OG Spelljammer make it an odd choice for a reboot, but I remain kind of excited to see what they do with it.

Oh - I meant to imply that stewardship would involve behavioral choices in addition to and beyond what would be considered ‘business ethics’, not to leave them out.

In terms of business ethics, probably nothing. Members of the D&D team have specifically described themselves as "stewards of the game", though, which feels a bit different.

Amusingly, I'm in a similar boat, where I'm spending the bulk of my TTRPG money on old TSR products, because 90s era books like "Faces of Evil: the Fiends" or "Uncaged: Faces of Sigil" have ended up being more useful to me at the table than the current crop of books. edit: To bring my comment...

D&D General The Owlbear Druid: How Would You Do It? (A Poll)

That's correct - wildshape lets you turn into a beast you've seen before, polymorph lets you turn into a beast of HD equal or less to your class level, but doesn't have the '...that you've seen' restriction. edit: I should add, at least in 5e and most versions of the game that I've played; note...

She did point out that she hasn't been a part of Maze Arcana since 2019, and that payment issues are out of her control at this point - doesn't mean she's innocent of the original problem, of course, but she doesn't see a way for her to solve them on her end. Yeah, agreed. "Welcome to the...

D&D Celebrity Satine Phoenix & Husband Jamison Stone Accused Of Abuse Towards Freelancers

...yeah. While she probably needed to make a statement of some sort, doing it in a way where 900 internet strangers can tell you what a horrible person you are was probably an ill thought out idea. She was explicit about not seeing a way back into the TTRPG community, which for good or ill...
