Gate Pass Gazette April's GPG Sneak Peek

That oasis is very evocative to me, I am sure my players will stumble upon it in my next dessert!

D&D 5E (2014) 2024 Monster Manual has better lore than 2014 Monster Manual

That take is just wild to me. The tables are very good and useful, of course, but the lore is dearly missed. I often feel inspired while reading through a monster book, and the lore is a big part of that.

D&D General Why did you have to cancel/reschedule your most recent session?

Child did wake up before the players arrived. So we played some Elsa game and memory instead. Was quite fun, actually!

How do you tabletop these days?

For my group, TTRPGs are a good reason to make time and meet friends, so at the moment only in person for me. I do wonder, though, if I'd like a VTT game. Maybe i will try it soon.

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

Honestly, I don't experience much need to flip pages while running, as most info I need in a current situation is located in one spread. I appreciate that there is no information overload, it helps finding the stuff I look for on the page quicker. Also, it helps with limited tables pace...

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

I very much prefer the A5 format, everything important fits in the spreads and is easy to see. Preferences vary, of course, but I think it allows for easy and quick digestion of the necessary information without overload with stuff I do not need right now.

Question about ready an action and spell casting

From the 2014 SRD: [...] When you ready a spell, you cast it as normal but hold its energy, which you release with your reaction when the trigger occurs. To be readied, a spell must have a casting time of 1 action, and holding onto the spell's magic requires concentration. If your concentration...

Lies of Locke Lamorra springs to mind when I read Blades in the Dark. Excellent book in any case!

D&D 5E (2024) My preferred way of playing D&D 2024 is... miniatures or not?

I mostly use TotM, with some of SlyFlourish tokens sprinkled in, when the occasion arises.

    D&D 5E (2014) Which 5e Should I Propose to My Group? [Updated]

I would probably mix and match some. For players, probably stick to 2014 because it is familiar. If the boredom is too big, though, switch to LU:A5E For the GM side: Use LU:A5E or bits of it for exploration and stuff. You can easily treat it as a buffet and take what you fancy. Monsters you can...

What is the MOST IMPORTANT skill for a GM to have?

I don't think pacing follows from improv skills. You can be great at improv and suck at pacing, or suck at improv and be good at pacing. if you discount a skill simply because it benefits from another one, the list will be awfully short and bland. Pacing is a very distinct skill and imho vastly...

What is the MOST IMPORTANT skill for a GM to have?

How so? For me it is a clearly distinct skill, but am I am very interested in why you think it a composite skill.

D&D 5E (2014) Your Favorite Sandbox Support Materials

For short adventures und like the arcane library and sly flourish 'fantastic' books. Most of those slot in quite easy. I also plan to use stuff from tales of the yawning portal.

Review of The Lazy Dungeon Master by Mike Shea

Been a time since I gave read them, and I got return first. Maybe that's why the differences stuck out a lot to me. But I agree, if I were to buy one of both books, I would get Return of the Lazy Dungeon Master for sure.

Review of The Lazy Dungeon Master by Mike Shea

As far as I am aware, it's less a new version, and more a completely separate book. Can't recommend Return enough, really helped me as a new DM to give me a solid game plan regarding prepping a session.
