YOUR IDEAS FOR STAR WARS CELESTIALS: No Idea Is Too Outrageous

I guess ultimately, what I'm planning is for the characters to "ascend" and become Celestials themselves, or be offered the opportunity to live among the Celestials...a triumphant end story for the characters.

Tell Me About the FATE System

Thank you, everyone, for your responses. I'm going to try a gritty Prohibition-era pulp game with FATE. I'll let you know how it goes.

How to tell someone not to come back.

One way to get rid of a player or players is to bring the current story arc to a close and tell everyone that's the end of the game. Then, after a brief hiatus, invite back olny the players you want for the next story arc.

    101 Unusual Adventure Hooks

    102. Shortly after the winter equinox festival, a band of unseelie dwarves ride into town on a boar-drawn sledge and raid the gifts and set fire to the houses. The heroes must engage them in a sleigh chase over heavy snow toward their cavernous lair...

    Choosing a Star Wars game

Saga Edition is definitely the way to go. Your defense progression is easily addressed in a number of ways: 1. Autofire - a miss deals half damage 2. Aid Another - each additional member of the fireteam adds plus two to the attack roll 3. Squad rules - combine both of the above for a lethal...

Looking for RPG system for campaign.

While I have used Savage Worlds for pirates, Weird West and Weird WWII, I have tried it only once for fantasy, and it was just okay for that setting. It works and seems to have the elements you're looking for, but I'd say that medieval fantasy is not necessarily the system's sweet spot.

Tell Me About the FATE System

I'm finally reading my Spirit of the Century core rulebook, which, I understand, uses the "FATE" system, and I'm wondering how well this system works for genres other than pulp. Is pulp the system's sweet spot? How applicable is the system to sword and sorcery, sci-fi or other genres?

YOUR IDEAS FOR STAR WARS CELESTIALS: No Idea Is Too Outrageous

This stuff is magnificent, jonesey! It's just the kind of bizarre, out-of-this-world storytelling I'm going for. Now they're on the Celestials' "doorstep," as you put it. I'm eager to hear your vision of what follows...!

    101 Unusual Adventure Hooks

Ah! In that case, another alternative is that the primeval forest could be a faerie forest or other fae realm, putting the characters into direct contact with the fae and their world!

    101 Unusual Adventure Hooks

The sky is lit with a red glow in the north. A half day's travel from where the PCs are, the ruins of an ancient tower long empty and crumbling are now belching a column of flames into the sky. Stampedes of wildlife are fleeing the area of the ruins. A bit of burning detritus spewed from the...

YOUR IDEAS FOR STAR WARS CELESTIALS: No Idea Is Too Outrageous

I like your ideas, CAFRedblade. And, jonesy, once again, very cool stuff. This is just what I am looking for.

Creating a Back To The Future type game.

I haven't played FATE yet, but from what I know about it and from the few perusals of the rulebook on my shelf, I'd say it'd probably be a good mechanic for it.

YOUR IDEAS FOR STAR WARS CELESTIALS: No Idea Is Too Outrageous

Some great ideas in this thread so far, but yes, it's the "next stage" that I'm at now, and need ideas for. I'm not sure how to continue my story with the PCs facing Celestial entities. I'm thinking about Kubrik's 2001 and stuff like that, but my ideas are all so derivative and hard to make an...

You're on a total roll, jonesey. Now tell me about these Celestials the PCs come face to face with.

YOUR IDEAS FOR STAR WARS CELESTIALS: No Idea Is Too Outrageous

Okay...here's an idea I came up with in that penumbral region between sleep and wakefulness: melee combat on a starship scale...the transmutation of the PCs into Abeloth-like entities that do Evangelion-like hand-to-hand combat in spaaaaace. Weapons are useless against the Celestial entity...

YOUR IDEAS FOR STAR WARS CELESTIALS: No Idea Is Too Outrageous

I want to introduce elements of the Celestials into my Star Wars campaign, hopefully as an endstory for some of the PCs, and I need as many ideas as you can come up with to help me make them spectacular. According to the mythos, the Celestials (a/k/a the "Architects") were a mysterious...

Why are the biggest games Fantasy games?

At the risk of sounding sexist, I think that may be a big part of it for female gamers, at least. My better half is not a gamer, but she has been cajoled by my gaming group (not by me!) to join us. She has no interest in any other setting but fantasy / sword & sorcery, and most recently said...
