D&D 5E (2014) PC races that a DM has specifically excluded from their campaign and why

Aaracokra and anything else that flies. I might allow it if the entire group took flying races. Flying races exacerbate the 'lone scout' PC who is playing the game while the rest of the party waits patiently for their report. Rogues and Rangers can have this problem too, but it is almost given...

Pogre's 2021 Miniatures and Models Thread - Yuan-ti group, Water Weird, and some Skinks.

Have not been painting much. I still have some French Regulars sitting on my painting desk. Here is a short clip from our game from this past Sunday. Video was taken by one of my players.

D&D 5E (2014) What level did your MOST RECENT campaign get to?

    16. Current campaign is up to 5th.

D&D General Dungeon Master or Referee?

When running D&D = Dungeon Master When running Traveller = Referee When running other games = Game Master Not that I would ever expect a player to address me by such a title.

D&D General What Main Factors Draw You to Playing a Fantasy RPG Race?

When I do play, I almost pick human or dwarf. The earthiness and practicality of dwarves appeal to me. Humans because the roleplaying is frankly more familiar and accessible for me.

If not for Gold and Glory...?

I lean into this idea, but from a slightly different angle. The PCs are exceptional, because they are fated thus by the gods. Heroes of a future mythology of sorts.

D&D General How old were you when you started playing D&D?

I was 8. Played a game with my cousin, who is 7 years older, after Thanksgiving dinner in 1975. Got the box set O-D&D that Christmas. I turn 54 in a few days.

D&D General Can we talk about best practices?

OK. Here are some other examples from actual youtube videos that are similar: "The Worst Dungeon Master Taboos You Can Commit in Dungeons and Dragons" "8 Things Terrible DMs Do" I have not watched these, but I assume they are general common sense. My point stands that I find it much more...

D&D General Can we talk about best practices?

"Best Practices" is a phrase likely to get me to avoid the next thing you say. To be true, it is almost certainly going to be so general and obvious to anyone who has run the game for a while or it is going to veer into so called bad-wrong-fun lectures. youtubers posting titles like 10 things...

D&D 5E (2014) How many combat encounters per adventuring day does your group have?

Very close to what our campaigns look like. In the dungeon environment we average 2.4 combats per hour - I kept track during our Mad Mage campaign. Grendel_Khan said: My group loves combat - loves it! When the folks on Critical Role moan and despair when Mercer pulls out some DF and minis...

D&D 5E (2014) Why do people care when threads get necro'd?

The only problem I have with necro'd threads is occasionally I respond to the thread on the current page and then go back and see that I responded to the thread in 2003. So far, I have not disagreed with my past self much.

D&D 5E (2014) Tell Us About Your Last Battle

PCs were hunting an arachnid predator that was preying on an orc settlement. Nasty custom creature based on real like spiders that have poisonous web strands. They hit it pretty good in the first couple of rounds and then it took off through the forest canopy. They gave chase and the whole...

D&D General West Virginia Mine Wars as the rough basis for a campaign

We used it as the basis for a skirmish miniatures game we ran at cons for a few years, but I like the rpg angle you are talking about. We added a lot of fun and goofy elements to the game that were VERY ahistorical.

D&D 5E (2014) How on earth is this balanced?! Twilight cleric, more in-play evidence

I have a player running a twilight character in my game right now. I'm edging towards the conclusions you have already reached. We are only at level four currently. Part of the inherent problem with my group is I run a pretty big table -typically 6-7 players - so part of it is 'my fault'. I'm...

The impossibility of Point of Light settings

OP - you are probably correct. I love history. I teach history. If you reflect on the consequences of magic and more it will drive you mad. I learned a long time ago not to worry about it too much unless it makes game prep more fun for me. Very, very few players care about this stuff IME...

D&D 5E (2014) Getting back to DMing after a break

Your players will be grateful you are running again and will grant you a lot of grace in getting back in the groove. I would say, "I am a little rusty. Please give me a little patience and support as I get rolling again." Not necessary, but it does give your players a heads up that you are...

D&D General D&D monsters that have been changed the most over time

They are back to the lioness centaur form. Undead are a lot less scary with no level-draining attacks. don't get me wrong - I am glad for the change it was not fun.
