D&D 5E (2014) Bellator Arcana - The Eldritch Knight Guide

MAD is multiple stat dependence, when a given character has to invest in too many attributes to be effective. BLTOC means 'Better left to other casters', in other words, people who have more spells than you.

Not sure how, but will look into it. Thanks, man.

D&D 5E (2014) Bellator Arcana - The Eldritch Knight Guide

MULTICLASSING Two things are worth noting: first, there is nothing wrong with going pure EK, mainly because you will get four attacks, more ASIs than anyone and extra Action Surge. Second, I would suggest taking at least 12 EK levels to build one, since three attacks and extra ASIs speak volume...

D&D 5E (2014) Bellator Arcana - The Eldritch Knight Guide

SPELLS Rules of the class: - Your spell list is the wizard spell list. - You may only choose evocation and abjuration spells for most of your spells (except for cantrips, those can come from any school). - Whenever you get a Fighter level, you can swap one spell you know for another. So if a...

D&D 5E (2014) Bellator Arcana - The Eldritch Knight Guide

SKILLS Class skills: • Acrobatics: For DEX builds this is mandatory, since it will help you avoid grapples and shoves effectively. Balancing on difficult terrain and tumbling for coolness are also nice. • Animal Handling: Plan to be mounted often? Take it. Otherwise, leave it. • Athletics...

D&D 5E (2014) Bellator Arcana - The Eldritch Knight Guide

(originally posted by me under the alias Specter in the GitP forums) I've been interested in this subclass for a while now, and since the other guides on the subject seemed lackluster, I decided to make one myself. Summary STYLE STATS RACES SKILLS BACKGROUNDS CLASS FEATURES FEATS SPELLS...

    D&D 5E (2014) Lets Rank the 5e Skills!

Rating skills should always be related to a specific campaign or setting, otherwise it's moot. When you're playing in a pirate campaign, for instance, Athletics becomes by far the most important skill because it covers swimming, something that's rarely (if ever) used in dungeon settings...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building Naked Snake/Big Boss in D&D 5E - A miniguide

"The meaning of justice can change from one day to the next. A professional soldier never brings justice into the mission. Politics are fickle, they change with the times. So long as we remain loyal to our countries, soldiers like us need nothing to believe in." Snake Big Boss, or Naked Snake...

    D&D 5E (2014) Help creating a tough defender

Might I suggest Eldritch Knight? Plate + Shield + Defense = 21AC Plate + Shield + Defense + Shield (spell) = 21AC (26 on a reaction) Plate + Shield + Defense + Shield (spell) + Shield of Faith (from Magic Initiate) = 23AC (28 with reaction) Picking Absorb Elements, you won't need to worry...

Very good job, OP. If my pcs try to go to colder climates, I'll be sure to use this.

D&D 5E (2014) Empowered Evocation plus Magic Missile?

"Beginning at 10th level, you can add your Intelligence modifier to the damage roll of any wizard evocation spell you cast." The spell is cast once, no matter the number of darts. Therefore, it applies once. No mystery at all.

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclass Wizard/Cleric

Two levels on the Knowledge Domain are thematically appropriate and worth it; two languages, two skills with their proficiency bonus doubled (Arcana included), and the ability to be proficient with any skill or tool for 10 minutes? Sign me up.

D&D 5E (2014) Feat at 1st Level: How To Go About It?

If I were to change the Variant Human, I'd allow an increase in only one stat, not two. The way it is now, it's the best class for 90% of builds.

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition Ranger: Why does every class have to have it's own schtick?

Yes. Another thing that bugs me is that the ranger is the only spellcasting class that has no magic items meant for it. It's like they really don't care anymore.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Initiate - A guide to an underestimated (and cool) feat

Long story short, +1 studded and mage armor give the same AC. If you manage to get your hands on +3 studded leather, even better, but that's not necessary. There's also the issue of the time: Mage Armor lasts for 8 hours, and sooner or later you will find yourself in a fight with no armor...

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Initiate - A guide to an underestimated (and cool) feat

Updated with my opinion on the SCAG cantrips. About moving this thread, I'm not sure it's completely an opmitization one - a lot of it is about cool thematical choices. But the mods should do whatever they feel like doing.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Initiate - A guide to an underestimated (and cool) feat

    1) Anywhere I can find the book or the spells online to take a look? Haven't found a link yet. 2) Good call on the Life Cleric bit. 3) I chose nto to use any incredible coloring for this guide. But it's that good, yes.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Initiate - A guide to an underestimated (and cool) feat

At low levels, it could be worth it. But in higher levels, when magic armor becomes common, a +1 studded leather makes it obsolete. But since you had a good experience with it, I might edit it. As mellored said, the attacking stat wouldn't be high. 3 stones would never hold in a long combat...

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Initiate - A guide to an underestimated (and cool) feat

This is a guide to using the Magic Initiate feat correctly; in my sessions, I've noticed that players don't fully realize all the crazy ways they can change their character, both in terms of roleplay and game mechanics, with it. So without further ado... Why go for Magic Initiate? -...
