Possum Creek Joins Steve Jackson Games as New RPG Imprint

Woah, a Car Wars Spy Hunter loop! Heck yeah. Whatever else they may or may not be, the more loose 6e rules for Car Wars ought to work well for such a wild ride: Give the protagonist car high armour, create a bunch of the mooks with lower armour cars, roll randomly to see which mooks arrive...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

Hmm. I'd say Ranger as archetype(s) [recognizing there are many archetypes that get labelled ranger, ie, nature-paladin vs tracker vs beastmaster vs...] are "necessary" things to be included within a D&D game. Whether they need to be a separate class (or classes) is a whole separate matter...

Memories of the Extensive Enterprises building! Or this from my hometown that, especially at night, totally invoked "launch gantry" in my mind: :)

Do you remember your first RPG purchase?

Very much remember. It was Top Secret. Ran it for my friends, who then ran it in turn. Been playing RPGs ever since. :)

Trailer Spaceballs 2: Not the Quest for More Money

One of the things that made Spaceballs: The Original work was that it had it's own humour and was doing its own thing while riffing on Star Wars/Trek/Aliens/etc, rather than trying to be some outright parody or by simply mocking those sci-fi series. If they come at it from that direction again...

Trailer Spaceballs 2: Not the Quest for More Money

I love Spaceballs. I want to think this could be great... depends on how willing they are to be daring and whether they will do the work to be creative and witty (ie not just simple reversal parody or "isn't this funny?" kind of stuff). Mawg tails and Schwartzs crossed!

D&D 5E (2024) It Is 2025 And Save Or Suck Spells Still Suck (the fun out of the game)

Solos are better when built/run as having multiple actions per round, which avoids the action economy issue. This can also avoid the "one save and be done" concern either by allowing additional saves on each of these turns or having other immunities or abilities to automagically end effects.

    Non-fantasy RPG suggestions?

The Troubleshooters may work for you, running adventures similar to the Tintin graphic novels. The base campaign world has some superscience influences, but those are easy enough to strip out if not desired and can still run very cool adventures in a "mundane" world.

What Media Format Is Your Preferred Campaign Style?

This is an interesting lens to look through! Of all the games we are currently playing, I think they could all be fit into one of these four types: Epic Narrative: The trilogy-style. You are out to solve/fix/overcome some grand thing. You know it at the start of the campaign. All of the...
