The D&D 4th edition Rennaissaince: A look into the history of the edition, its flaws and its merits

I had read some article before 4e came out where one of the team members (Perkins, maybe?) described how they ran a skill challenge. Which rocked! (At least by/how they described it) So I always ran SCs in that same way and didn't really read what was in the DMG except maybe to determine the...

The D&D 4th edition Rennaissaince: A look into the history of the edition, its flaws and its merits

As an example of just how much everything can be in the eye of the beholder... I'd began playing with AD&D. Moved onto 2e, 3e, and 3.5e. Decades of gaming. And what I saw of the 4e marketing landed very much for me as a combo of tongue in cheek and knowing/loving/ribbing this hobby we've had...

Evil Genius Games Attempts To Remove Bad Press [Update--And Then Adds Legal Threats!]

As an architect, I can point you to some good examples! The Portland airport revamp, for example, is getting a lot of attention right now. :) Edit: Airport terminals, to be clear. No promises on the runways, taxiways, etc.

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

Overpowered? No. But having agency? Having competence? Being able to make my way through the scenario? Those are important to me. And what each of those specifically entail depends on the realm of the specific game/campaign/scenario/theme/tome. So it's more about having what it takes...

Evil Genius Games Attempts To Remove Bad Press [Update--And Then Adds Legal Threats!]

Natch... SLAPP is a thing! But I have never seen one so generic that the only Mad Lib part is a single spot for the URL in the middle to be pasted in. Plus it coming from an unnamed/generic named law firm. Plus it being sent from a gmail address. Plus without listing the company or person...

Evil Genius Games Attempts To Remove Bad Press [Update--And Then Adds Legal Threats!]

"Defamation" seems to be a common go-to these days, doesn't it? The super-hyper-generic letter is a new one to me, though. It's like citing a study on squirrel poop in your screed and hoping no one notices that it isn't relevant/supporting/related/etc.

D&D General Poll: Did you watch the D&D cartoon when it was new?

Was alive, started playing RPGs in its last year of run, but was not interested in D&D as a game/genre until a few years later.

What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

While I'm fortunate that we play tonnes of different games in my primary gaming group (right now we have 3 main games ongoing, each using a different system), I'm going to watch this because I'm super curious what the hurdles are out there for "many/most" groups to venture outside of 5e (either...

Describe your last rpg session in 5 words

"Good evening, Mummy." "Tip of the hat to you, fine sir." "And to you. Fine evening for a stroll is it not?" "Oh it most certainly is. Peekins here especially loves the crisp air." "Ah what a cute little pup you have there. Hello there." "Woof!" (All smiles) (Walking along) (SQUISH) (Looks...

D&D General D&D The Immersive Quest - My Adventure & Review

Hi there, great to meet a pair of the designers! :) Aye, I really get the challenge that comes with designing for as broad an audience as possible, especially in the design of the quests as they need to both be accessible/completable from a physical/interactivity standpoint as well as avoiding...

D&D General D&D The Immersive Quest - My Adventure & Review

Great, enjoy yourself! :) I didn't pay for the VIP experience, but I did see someone from the staff walking by with the bracelets (which looked to me like they were of the "slap-bracelet" type) and the badges (which were similar to the badges you would get at a convention). I didn't see the...

    Dragon Reflections #87

Ah! The famous plant article! Famous enough at least that for some reason our group back in the day had photocopies of the article tucked in with all the rest of our gaming material. Not sure why or even who photocopied it, but for whatever reason it formed part of our D&D mindset/zeitgeist...

Here Are 2025's Most Anticipated TTRPGs... As Voted By You!

I didn't vote in the poll, but oh heck yeah I'm eager for Legend in the Mist. We gave it playtest using the quickstart rules released during the Kickstarter and liked its potential. Will get when it releases.

    What's your VTT of choice?

Voted OBR as my choice, though Roll20 is what actually gets used the most due to legacy and integration (ie Beyond20) reasons.

    Lightweight, Simple VTTs?

If I remember correctly, they made it available to download and run locally. Also, for what it's worth, I've found that most of the 'complexity' in the new OBR comes when adding extensions. From a basic use perspective (especially from the player's side) it remains as light as the original.

D&D General D&D The Immersive Quest - My Adventure & Review

Oh, one other cute thing... if you purchase goods in the tavern you get to roll a d20 3 times and take the best as a discount to the price. Nice. My friend, first roll: Nat 20. Boom. My rolls: 8, 4, 6. Hrmmmm. She was nice and rounded up to 10%. :P :)

And here are the photos! The exterior entrance: Inside the lobby: More lobby: Notice the group at the centre-left, decked out in full adventuring regalia, including plate gauntlets, cloaks, and more! Their wizard with this illuminating staff is hidden from view (or was it an...
