Joyful GMing: Read Tolkien to Enhance Your GMing Skills

I agree, and I think it is more than that. I know that Sanderson and Abercrombie are good writers. However, I also think that Sanderson and Abercrombie write about themes completely opposite to Tolkien. Evil wins. Sacrifice doesn't lead to victory. Less so in Sanderson's books of course, but...

Visit three Realms of the Three Rings for The One Ring and learn all about Elves in the Third Age. There are plenty of rules, monsters, adventures, and more for Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Edition and Pathfinder Second Edition. Shadowrun and Savage Worlds both get supplements for combat and super...

Bezarngay Boil: An Interview with Hannu Rytövuori

Volume 5 describing Glorantha’s East Isles is out: Bezarngay Boil for RuneQuest - Roleplaying in Glorantha. The author, Hannu Rytövuori, was kind enough to send me a PDF and answer some questions about his latest work. Charlie Dunwoody (CD): Thanks for talking to me, Hannu. This fifth volume...

If I was an arborist, I'm sure I wouldn't have any problem identifying different trees!

RPG Archive: Star*Drive for D&D and Traveller

I picked that up. It is good but incomplete because the starship supplement was never published or most of the other supplements. With some work, that would be a great campaign to run. But the GM would have to figure out starships on his own or swap out the Prime Directive warp drive and weapons...

Joyful GMing: Read Tolkien to Enhance Your GMing Skills

Gandalf works much the same way when he's a Patron. He doesn't normally go on the adventures with PCs, but my group had an encounter with a terrible sea monster and he provided some well needed damage so the PCs could escape. Tom Bombadil could be another Patron for PCs. That would be a trippy...

Joyful GMing: Read Tolkien to Enhance Your GMing Skills

@birv2, your First Post! Welcome to posting on EN World! Stop by the Prancing Pony and we can share drinks and stories. I hope you have had a chance to run or play The One Ring 2E. It captures both the heroics and the setting very well. And the cloth map of Eriador is truly stunning.

Whoops! In my defense, there are a lot of trees in Book I.

Joyful GMing: Read Tolkien to Enhance Your GMing Skills

The Fellowship of the Ring remains a brilliant source of inspiration and guidance for GMs. From an opening that reads like an excellent 0 level adventure to how to dungeon crawl in the Mines of Moria, the book covers so much GMs need to know. It also serves as a reminder to slow adventures down...

RPG Archive: Star*Drive for D&D and Traveller

D20 Future really needed a complete setting book. That would make it so much easier to pick up and run even all these years later.

Grabbing Iguanoid for a future villain name. Maybe a lizard king. Also grabbing Squatch. Good bartender name.

Oh yes, the ironically named Big Mistake that kicked off another edition. Gamma World using D&D 4E rules was wild but worked surprisingly well. I think the powers approach of D&D 4E translated into mutations a lot better than spells did. The random collectable nature of the cards for an RPG...

Not my favorite version of GW for sure. My favorite is fourth edition although I remember first edition with a lot of fondness as it was the first RPG I ever GMed for.

Alternity does have a Gamma World supplement. Of course, it is 25 years old now, so it might not have the modern takes on post-apocalyptic gaming.

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Tome of Intangible Treasures 2, Knights of the Dinner Table, and more

Bitter Chalice looks great and something new focusing so much on one city. Lemurian Chronicles is great; a new sword and sorcery setting using tested rules sounds solid.

RPG Archive: Star*Drive for D&D and Traveller

I think Alternity Star*Drive existed because TSR was failing. Much less oversight and the designers built a vision without much corporate committee. D20 Future was a great concept, but the built by committee is much more apparent.
