The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

If lawfare is the plan for WotC/Hasbro, then Cynthia Williams is the corporate reincarnation of Lorraine Williams with ten thousand times the evil.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Agreed, which leads me to believe that lawfare isn't what WotC/Hasbro are up to here. At this point I have to believe the intention of the leaked portion is that accepting OGL 1.;1 and releasing content under it binds you to OGL 1.1 and that content can never go back to OGL 1.0a. To put it...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

If lawfare is really what WotC/Hasbro are up to, I would make a recurring monthly donation of $100 for litigation. That's what I've been spending on WotC IP lately.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Simple. Thirdguy Press releases The Wonderworld of Amazement. Tom, who is a DM, buys The Wonderworld of Amazement to run for his group. Dick And Harry each bring Sally and Mary to the game to try and get them involved since some of the aspects of The Wonderworld of Amazement will probably be...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I think it can still be considered unauthorized for any content released under OGL 1.1, which is what I believe the lifted portion of the leak is actually doing. In other words, ANY content released under OGL 1.1 would not be authorized to be released under OGL 1.0a. I think that is the entire...

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I agree with you. They likely cannot. By using the verbiage that OGL 1.0a is unauthorized, it would specifically apply to anything released under the OGL 1.1 license based upon everything I've seen, meaning that nobody can release anything covered by OGL 1.1 under OGL 1.0a because section 9 of...

WotC quietly deleting access to the 3e SRD

But what if they aren't planning on doing any of that because they know they cannot afford the lost good will?

WotC quietly deleting access to the 3e SRD

A lot of people are worrying about it going away. I am still of the opinion that WotC/Hasbro cannot revoke or "unauthorize" it, though I would also agree they can force abandonment of it a condition of acceptance of OGL 1.1, which is what I believe the language in the leaked portion is actually...

Changing the product, or rather developing the product into an entirely new product that stands on its own.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

One thing I can say for absolute certain, if Kickstarter refuses to allow any project using OGL 1.0a, I'll have backed my last Kickstarter ever with the one that just ended. Will wait to see before backing another.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

And what WotC currently infers was original intent is quite the opposite of what was going on more than two decades ago. While they were working on the original OGL they were literally giving away material to competitors to equip them so as to be ready to begin relasing material IMMEDIATELY upon...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Problem here is the fact that it IS revocable and lays out the conditions for revoking the license which is basically violating the terms of the license. That's the only way you can revoke the license.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I'm beginning to get the feeling that WotC intentionally leaked this to start OGL hysteria, then low and behold when the actual unOpen OGL 1.1 is finally released and 'heh heh' the OGL 1.0a is only revoked if you want to make content for the new bigger brighter D&D 6E (yes, it's 6E, don;t kid...

The OGL 1.1 is not an Open License

But, you have the right to trademark and release certain content that is not OGL, too. If you create a new monster with a new name, you ahve a right to NO release it under the OGL. Under OGL 1.1, you no longer have that right.

The OGL 1.1 is not an Open License

I see the OGL 1.1 as basically an Amazon license. If they like your idea, you're done. They will take it and Amazon Collecti... er... One D&D it. They already do that with anything you save to D&D Beyond as fan content, this license just let's them do it more easily with third party commercial IP.

Recent Humble Bundle Maps Spectacular bundle, extra keys I have

Hey all, ProFantasy recently put up a Maps Spectacular bundle Humble Bundle and I needed everything in it except Campaign Cartographer 3+, City Designer 3, and Dungeon Designer 3. Since I already have those three products I checked and I am free to give away the keys to one person who would add...

    The Queen has died

My mother was 13 when she was crowned queen. She has been Queen of England my entire life. As a child I was taught of her reign in grade school even here in America. As others have said, the end of an era. Long live King Charles III.
