WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

CNBC has taken up the issue, too. I expect investors are probably starting to wonder what's up.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

Absolutely nothing, which was known when the OGL was created. they KNEW somebody could create a Nazi based RPG and they left it to the marketplace to deal with it. Ryan Dancey has basically said this in two different interviews I've listened to with him. They knew anybody could create anything...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

The case was specifically about copyright and trademark infringement. Read the filings, the OGL doesn't enter into the case at all.

If You're "Permanently" Boycotting WotC, They're Not Going To Listen To You

Wrong, Part of the reason I am done with all WotC purchases is because I don't trust them not to go down the road of the worst things I can imagine after this.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

I would note that the GPL version 2 never said it was irrevocable, only perpetual. GPL 2 has been tested in courts multiple times. GPL 2 is considered irrevocable even though there is no language in the actual license that says it is anything but perpetual. It has stood the test of time and...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

That document had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the OGL. The racism thing is a red herring.

If You're "Permanently" Boycotting WotC, They're Not Going To Listen To You

I had gone back to 5E in August, bought a year subscription to D&D Beyond, and spent at least $100/month on WotC products until the leak. I will never buy from them again because I can never trust them again. I firmly believe that in their future digital product, microtransactions will become...

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

The only thing I have to say about the statement written in perfect public relationsese is, I don't trust WotC/Hasbro any further than I can pick them up and throw them.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

That's what I find so wonderful about ORC. It's being developed by the legal team that developed OGL 1.0 and will include input from multiple companies. The law firm wil take original ownership of the license until a non-profit 3rd party can take ownership NO corporation involved in TTRPG...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I would have viewed it the same way I viewed the move to 4E, "I can still go by the 3.5 E rules". Then Paizo did Pathfinder 1E (aka, 3.75) and I didn't look back until 5E under the OGL 1.0a. Biggest difference? I would have looked at Pathfinder 2E straight away this time. Now, I don't trust them...

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I doubt the group would accept WotC's money. WotC is getting frozen out and the vast majority of creators won't have anything to do with them in the future. It's clear what they want to do with the OGL, and they want to let everything die down, then attempt to kill it again.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

I'm going to write a setting that has Orcs as the primary world race under PathFinder's SRD once they release it under ORC. I can hardly wait until ORCtober for all the OpenRPG deals that month!

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

I think you're going to see them kill all the gods which will be a definite statement. Their gods are basically D&D gods.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Well, when Ginny Di tweeted out to cancel your DND Beyond subscription, it broke the page where you could unsubscribe. This is bigger than anything WotC has ever experienced from the fans because media personalities and influencers are now driving it out to a bigger audience. Saw a Twitch game...
