The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

My stance is simple. If I see a WotC creator badge on a single product, I will not purchase ANY products from that creator. That is my personal red line. Your red line is whatever you decide.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

It is no longer an authorized license per the document. That is absolutely consistent in everything I have seen. WotC is unilaterally revoking the license. This is Nuclear Lawfare.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Keep in mind though, there is still a chance that WotC would make an offer to purchase Paizo as a way to take out the largest competitor, too, and such an offer may be too good to walk away from.

She's been my RPG hero for decades now. :)

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Ms. Stevens had a vast amount of WotC stock as a very important employee when Hasbro bought out WotC.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

This one, right here. My guess (please note, I did use the word GUESS), given the Paizo environment, Paizo is prepared to litigate. Paizo itself may not have the money, but Lisa Stevens ABSOLUTELY has the money and will seek litigation costs in any suit.

The OGL 1.1 is not an Open License

I will never again purchase any WotC or Hasbro product, regardless of the outcome. I will also purchase nothing from any 3pp that has a WotC Creator badge on even a single product.

The OGL 1.1 is not an Open License

I haven't bought anything from WotC since this mess started. I had been spending about $100/month since I went back to D&D in August.

The OGL 1.1 is not an Open License

Based on everything I've seen to date, I'll not be purchasing single item from any creator using one of those stinking creator badges.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

If you have the time, Indestructoboy has the entire OGL 1.1 and spent about 3:38 going over it in a live stream this morning:

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Man, designing an RPG from the ground up has to be incredibly time consuming and costly, not to mention getting people to help play test the thing to make sure it works as you think you've designed it. It's why the OGL made things just so handy.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

Back in the day when we were young adults in our late 20s and early 30s playing the game we had THAC0 and we did the math and WE LIKED IT!

I never claimed Mercer sold out, I am saying it's likely because of all the third parties, Critical Role likely got a super sweetheart deal presented because their value for driving people to D&D is incredibly valuable for WotC/Hasbro. Only time will tell if they did.

And I would expect Warehouse 23 to get a cease and desist shortly after. This is Lawfare and it looks like Hasbro is not playing games.

so long as the signor never reports it to law enforcement when they dissolve, WotCis safe from criminal consequences. Dissolving it will not stop a signor from reporting it, though. That would only be a position of good faith.
