    WotBS Trillith-Inhabited Heroes...

My campaign has had some player turnover at the top of the game, but seems to have finally stabilized. One of the newer players decided to play a Wild Magic Barbarian, and expressed an interest in learning WHY he had these strange powers. I realized it was a perfect chance to give his...

    D&D 5E (2014) Integrating a story-resistant player

One reason I aimed to start with a bigger group... room for attrition, if people left the game. Even if you end up with a party imbalance, story trumps stats, and I can adjust difficulty on the fly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Integrating a story-resistant player

Well, first session was yesterday, and aside from some technical difficulties and some first-session clumsiness, I'd say things went well! Except the player in question for this thread "forgot about the game" and was a no-show (not the only absence, but the other player contacted me well in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Integrating a story-resistant player

My issue is that I've asked several times, "why are you in this particular city? What brought you here?" And I get complete radio silence, or a non-commital "I'm just getting supplies." I don't think he's paid any attention to the players' guide, or my own attempts to tell the pre-story of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Integrating a story-resistant player

I'm getting ready to start of War of the Burning Sky in a couple of days, and have been working towards integrating my players' characters into the backstory of the campaign. So far, most players have some existing connections to the story all planned out and ready to go! But one player has been...

D&D 5E (2014) Question for GMs... How "Secret" is Scrying?

"As you complete the scrying ritual, you feel your awareness slipping away, hurtling across vast distances, until your senses snap into focus. You're in a small room, lit by a series of lanterns mounted to the wall. You see your target, standing before you, disrobed save for a towel around his...

D&D 5E (2014) Question for GMs... How "Secret" is Scrying?

This is a more opinion-based question than anything, but I'm wondering... from the perspective of the GM, how much information are you required or expected to give your players, if some effect is scrying upon them? Obviously, this could go anywhere from "none at all," implying that even the...

WotBS New Campaign Planning... Integrating Backstories [probably spoilers]

Thinking about my party's Warlock, with Avilonna (the Stormbringer Eagle) as a patron... I'm trying to think of themes for cryptic dream-visions I could impose upon the player. In the exceedingly brief time I've worked with them, I've still noticed that they have a tendency to only look at...

    WotBS Chapter 1 Intro

Chapter 3... getting trickier, because this is where player decisions might begin to necessitate a change in the narrative.

    WotBS Chapter 1 Intro

There's also a Game of Thrones version, but the text (taking the place of cast names) stays on the screen SO BRIEFLY, you need to cut the intro down to tiny snippets of information - 3-4 words, tops.

    WotBS Elvish Language 101? (headcanon)

I might base the naming convention of Innenotdar upon the Sylvan language, rather than Elvish, given the prominence that the Fey seem to have within the wood. Taranesti simply settled there.

    WotBS Elvish Language 101? (headcanon)

I like the idea that "Shahal" and "Shal/Shaal" all stem from the same root meaning "light." On a side note, it seems to me that both Ycengled Phuurst and Phorros Irrendra might both involve borrowed words from common, with both "Phuurst" and "Phorros" sounding a bit like the standard word, "Forest"

WotBS New Campaign Planning... Integrating Backstories [probably spoilers]

Plans so far (UPDATED)... HALF-ELF GLOOMSTALKER RANGER: Current plan is that he'll meet what's left of his mother in the fire forest (she's actually tiefling, so she may be able to endure the Indomitable Fire template better than the elves, and could conceivably survive the chapter). Father...

    WotBS Elvish Language 101? (headcanon)

I'm playing around with the naming conventions within War of the Burning Sky, and wondered if the three names for the elvish races came from root words in the language. I don't know if any of this was intended or not, but I've come up with four words so far... Esti is, fundamentally, the...
