Was Gandalf Just A 5th Level Magic User?

Level 5 wizards? Sure, but give him credit for swinging a sword and staff too! So level 5/1 wizard fighter? Perhaps more fighter levels? But still, compared with D&D spells he's a 5th level wizard. In D&D we have 9 wizard levels from 1 to 9. In Tolkiens world we don't know, but it is said that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monster infomation in combat - free action ?

If you let some players decide, they grab a MM and start reading the specs saying "But my character knows all this from being a librarian", ruining it for all other players... Almost all players know what to do with trolls, but unless they are common to the area the character is from, lore...

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

I believe it is, yes. I'm not 100% familiar with I6 Ravenloft, but in 200 years the land could have been altered from I6 to CoS. Especially with the control Strahd has over "his" land. According to the rules of CoS it would indeed be that the souls are recycled. So your new character could...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd: Travel time in Barovia (minor spoilers)

Exactly how he likes it! You know it would add to the horror factor to let the party go from point A, leaving Strahd there, to point B only to find Strahd waiting for them. It would make people think there are more Strahds! With a campaign map this small it's possible.

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd spoiler-filled general discussion

Quick Question: The first Tarokka reading, with the location of all key items/people, do you do that with the players or not? It'll be fun to keep much of it secret but it could be to hard for player to find some items...
