    D&D 5E (2014) Avoiding Initiative

Tried this again last night and it worked really well. I am sticking with this for a while.

And rants about how the 5e stealth rules are so broken no one could ever use them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Avoiding Initiative

I do that sometimes as well. However, one group I had would do everything they could to kill fleeing monsters and it actually made some combats longer. 😁

    D&D 5E (2014) Avoiding Initiative

I typically do passive initiative for the monsters. But that probably doesn’t solve the issue sue in the OP.

    D&D 5E (2014) Avoiding Initiative

I should try this again with the group I am with now.

    D&D 5E (2014) Avoiding Initiative

Once I used an initiative variant where each PC and NPC had their names written on blank playing cards. Then during combat the cards where shuffled and play went in order the cards were drawn. It was quick, easy, and I loved it. However the players hated not knowing the order ahead of time.

    Criticals and double dice

Just curious, why is getting this into an official errata so important to you? Are people you playing with having heated arguments about this?

"Theater of the Mind" or Map and Minis?

I have started using this more over the last couple years. I prefer it to a grid but my best dry erase maps are gridded.

How many gods is too many gods?

Nope. Players are encouraged to create those backstories themselves, if they are interested.

How many gods is too many gods?

The gods in my game aren’t well defined and typically don’t play much of a role in the meta plot. I allow any god from any D&D or real world pantheon in my games. If two gods come up that seem somewhat similar then I just say maybe they are different names for the same being and it typically...

    D&D 5E (2014) Amazon: D&D at the start of 2018

Yep and I regularly do. 2e works pretty well too (I am running some Spelljammer stuff now).

    D&D 5E (2014) Amazon: D&D at the start of 2018

Not surprised by these numbers. 5e is a fantastic game. For me it is the game I wanted to be playing back in the 80s when I was playing BX and 1e. I really enjoyed BX and 1e but 5e blows them out of the water for me.

Searched the boards didn't see this. Question about the Proficiency dice variant and bards...

Even if using the prof dice variant I would still probably just take half of the fixed prof bonus to keep thing simpler, but rolling and dividing by two would work also.

    Why I dislike Milestone XP

I also chucked the encounter building/XP guidelines. I just eye encounters as close enough and let the players decide on how to handle the encounters. I typically do session leveling. For my new campaign I have tweaked it so now I give out a certain amount of XP per session. The XP is strictly...

Do You Use Your RPG Rules as Written?

I typically stick with RAW for the most part when I play with my adult group. When I play with the kids then I just do whatever I want.
