Sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with 5e. I love it but understand others have different tastes. Definitely play what you enjoy.

I use a variety of methods with 5e. Sometimes TotM and sometimes minis. With minis sometimes I use a grid and sometimes I don't. If I do use a grid then I just draw a rough map. Sometimes I use a pre-printed map if I have something that is appropriate. I have a decently large mini collection.

I love DDB as a reference tool to look up monsters, spells, rules, etc. very quickly and when I am away from my books. That is the main thing I want and that is already built very nicely (just waiting for the paid content). Everything else is secondary for me.

As others have said, using the SRD isn't a problem but pirated books are. My current group doesn't have this issue. Everyone at least had a PHB. My 4e group from a dpfew years ago there was a lot of pirating the DDI character builder (and the PHB before thenCB was available). I didn't like it...

I prefer the adventures to reduce m prep time as much as possible. As a compromise between having stat blocks in the adventure and not is to have PDF reference sheets for each room with stats blocks, traps, treasure, etc. Maybe this could be a DMs Guild supplement for each adventure. It could...

Ever since I was in a 1e game where the DM homebrewed a cat race, I have been facinated by the concept (the Lion guy from the Flash Gordon animated series was part of the fascination too).

I don't like comparing passive DCs. I like one side to roll. Although I convert the DCs to bonuses by subtracting 10.

They invested significant resources into getting that high passive perception. Let them enjoy it. When the party is ambushed they get to shine by not being surprised. Things like that.

I have ordered a few copies of the player's basic rules on Lulu when someone has posted it. But I just put a book together that combines both the player's and DM rules with your cover. I ordered a copy so I will see how this turns out.
