D&D 5E (2014) Lets Discuss Feats. Do you like them? Plus, some questions!

I don't find this true. Maybe my groups are different but more than 1/2 (7 out of 12) of our 4th level characters took feats over the ability score.

And yes, Magic Initiate makes a PC eligible for those feats. If you wanted to make a F/M type (without going EK) you could also keep taking the MI feat, by 8th level fighter you could have 3 (or 4 if human) 1st level spells and 12 Cantrips. That's a neat character, Captain Cantrip.

D&D 5E (2014) Lets Discuss Feats. Do you like them? Plus, some questions!

It's really tough deciding between a feat or a stat increase, at least at 4th and 8th level (and 6th for fighter). I find it a cool mechanic that makes each character differnt.

D&D 5E (2014) Halfling Barbarians-Finally a edition that lets the monster out of it's cage.

The Mountain Dwarf Wizard is the combo I am pumped about playing. I am also excited the 1/2Orc Assassin is back. I am also tempted to play a Drow Cleric of Light somehow.

Funny Out of Context D&D Quotes

"Well, anyone, can TALK to plants....." and "We aren't out to save the world, we are out to save ourselves. From our selves."

    Writers & Artists Needed!

Is there a standard form (or format) for submissions?

    D&D 5E (2014) Adventurer's Guild

I would just give them 1/2 share of XP. The NPC's will go from 1-5 in the time it takes the 8's to get to 9.

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits and Fumbles

I think it's cute. I use a ton of different "critical miss" rules. Roll a 1, then: 1. Nothing happens, you miss, game over. This is group of pretty tactical old dudes who worry about balance and stupid crap like that. 2. Make something up bad like: drop your sword, tangle your flail, slip on...

D&D 5E (2014) Traps for DMs to Avoid

I think magic item's with concentration spells that either: don't require concentration or concentration by a non-caster are pretty powerful. It basically removes a mechanic designed to bound that accuracy.

D&D 5E (2014) Why I'm grateful for our current magic item system.

I am in this camp as well. I am starting to write a story line based on "Grandpa's axe" a magical trinket that gets stolen from the one of the PC's. The axe will be just a nice axe from level 1-3 (+1 damage) and full blown +1 axe at 4 and 5 and then start unlocking powers every couple levels...

    D&D 5E (2014) Value of 1 lb. of mithral?

It isn't in the PHB, it's in the DMG. Mithral the metal is only mention twice in the PHB, once in the CREATION spell (you can make it, kinda) and once as a spell component for imprisonment.

    D&D 5E (2014) eldritch knight multiclass

LEvels that are a multiple of three. If you don't you are losing a caster level.

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

It would be kinda neat to run a 5E party through that with the PC's using 5E rules and the DM using 1E.

    D&D 5E (2014) DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

Good Pete, the Great Hall battle in G1 would be virtually unplayable. There's like 30 giants and some grizzly bears!

    new swords

I don't intend for it to be taken by the common man, only upper crust elites. I hadn't thought about GWF and the d4's, that does make the Great Sword very nasty. Which is, you know, what I am looking for. The purpose of using the Weapon Master Feat is to: 1. Mimic the old "Exotic Weapon"...

    new swords

On the main forum, there is a thread bemoaning the lack of sword superiority. I feel that pain. I like to treat swords as weapons of wealth. Peasent heroes don't use swords, knights and nobles do. I want to make these swords "better". I am thinking about making these changes in order to...

D&D 5E (2014) What Do You Think of This Bladelock?

I can't remember them all but the ones I normally cast are: Hex Armor of someone Misty step Suggestion Fly Fireball Eldritch blast Bladeward I have burning hands and scorching ray as well but never cast them. Probably half my spells end up being hex. Its really easy to cast because its a...
