D&D 5E (2014) Warlock, Pact of the Blade, Melee

My mountain dwarf warlock has turned out pretty effective. At 4th level I do 1d10+3 with the extra 1d6 from hex pretty often. My AC is only 14 but I pretty much always have 5-8 temp hit points up. I am going to to go the Sorcerer/Paladin route and use my spells slots for smites.

    D&D 5E (2014) Agility-based katana wielder: is it possible?

That's a great idea. Take the defensive duelist feat and go the emental monk path and you can be pretty bad ass. at 5th level with the fangs of the fire snake (refluffed to more cool katana strikes) you can have something like: AC 17 (20 with a parry reaction) Two attacks at +7 1d8+4 Bonus...

    D&D 5E (2014) Agility-based katana wielder: is it possible?

I don't see how a 1d10, 2 handed, finesseable weapon breaks the game. I would really make the player watch his encumberance so he doesn't cheese his low strength score. You might also make him only have light armor, no medium or heavy.

I made my own dark creeper/stalker if you want it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Minotaurs Lair

I like the shifting lair part if the PC's chase the minotaur. Mechanically, I am thinking DEX save or hit by a shifting wall. I'll let the PC's decide if they want to be on the side of the minotaur or not. This could divide the party but I suspect if given the choice they won't.

D&D 5E (2014) How to Deal Uber Damage

1d12+5d8+1d6+7 Is that alot (or to much) at 12th level. This is a melee attack at about +7.

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

I play D&D with a few groups. One group is a bunch of 30 and 40 year-olds who play tactically sound most of the time. These guys save their spells and cast them in the optimal situations. They complain a little about the wizards. Another is a collection of 13 and 14 year-olds. These kids LOVE...

    D&D 5E (2014) Minotaurs Lair

I am thinking about running a Minotaur's Lair encounter with one of my groups. I want it to feel like they are trying to get through the maze while dealing with this minotaur who is terrorizing them. I also want it to be kinda like a 4E skill chalenge with the failures resulting in an...

    D&D 5E (2014) Building a Druid Grove?

Some other mechanical effects you might want to think about: The entangle spell is "powered up". Maybe disadvantage on the save, maybe double in size, maybe d4 damage if caught in it. Resistance necrotic for all within it. SOmething like Divine favor for all "wild" creatures in the grove...

D&D 5E (2014) Low Level Wizards Really Do Suck in 5E

What's an iron mage? Someone who gets into melee combat? There are certainly builds for this. Mountain Dwarf in medium armor, 12ish dex and the shield spell. Use posion spray, ray of frost and shocking grasp to move around combat. Dragonborn with high dex, mage armor and shield. Breath...

D&D 5E (2014) Spectres, Hit point loss and temp HP

The feat, Inspiring Leader or something like that. The actual numbers were like 38 and 6, I just rounded up to make the math easy.

D&D 5E (2014) Spectres, Hit point loss and temp HP

Last night our group fought some spectres and a wraith. On a hit, spectres and wraiths cause a saving throw which if you fail the damage comes off your MAX hit points as well. We had a problem ruling on TEMP hit points. Here are the #'s: Fighter has 40 MAX hit points and 10 temp hit...

D&D 5E (2014) Two (?) Questions about Elves and Classes

You could still "feat tree" it. Magic Iniatiate give 3 cantrips and 1 1st level spell. There is no reason there can't be a 2nd feat that give another 1st and a 2nd or something. Or you could make a subclass. Maybe the 1/2 or 1/3 spell casters could be your base. OR use the magicy monk...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rating the 1st level Wizard Spells

I think you're right! The monk/barb things say "when not wearing any armor" and Mage Armor says it makes your AC 13+ Dex when not wearing armor. I think it should work. That certainly makes it better at higher levels when spell slots aren't so valuable. It also makes the SORC/BARB combo...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rating the 1st level Wizard Spells

At low levels is isn't worth the valuable spell slot to give the the +1 AC to someone else. Both our wizards cast Mage Armor on themselves every day though.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rating the 1st level Wizard Spells

Comprehend Language as a ritual is pretty useful. Granted you would probably only take if you KNOW you are going to use it but not having to burn up a slot to cast it is a huge plus. Burning Hands/Thunderwave are better than you think as well. Run up, do 10 points of damage to 3 guys, run...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rating the 1st level Wizard Spells

It's not really "fair" to rate these spells in a vacuum. All of these spells are situationally good. MAgic Missile is awesome when you need to force an enemy to make a concentration check. Grease is awesome in front of a door. Color spray is great with a party of rogues. Tasha's is a...
