    D&D 5E (2014) Explainable multiclassing

I am the same way, if my 5th level thief decides he wants to take a level in sorcerer then guess what, go for it! Want to cast the shield spell? Well then she's a little more dodgey for one round. Want to cast sleep? Well then she figures out how to make a sleep gas pellet. They follow the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Phantasmal Killer

You tap into the nightmares of a creature you can see within range and create an illusory manifestation of its deepest fears, visible only to that creature. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target becomes frightened for the duration. At the start of each o f the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Customizing Beholders

Thanks guys. I am going to try the themed approach... something like Freddie from Nightmare on Elm Street, fear using soul eater. Trap the Soul will replace petrification (using the double save mechanic) Dissonant Whispers for slow (up to 3rd level so it's 5d6) Command- "Kneel" for Sleep Ray...

    D&D 5E (2014) Customizing Beholders

I want to swap out some beholder powers but keep the same general feel. I figure the things that can't be changed are: All rays must only effect one enemy DC still 16 The effects must be or similar to spell The effects must either have an effect or damage The MM beholder has the following...

    D&D 5E (2014) Monsters with bonus actions

Thanks, I thought I remembered using one but I guess it was just me playing with the rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) Monsters with bonus actions

Is there a monster that has bonus action? Or is all that stuff covered under the multiattack umbrella? I want to add some special abilities to normal monster and was looking for an example but couldn't find one after a quick glance of the MM. Thanks in advance.

    D&D 5E (2014) ogrillons

It sounds to me like you need 3 or 4 separate monsters: Orc, Ogrillion,1/2 Ogre, 1/2 Ogre MAgic user. If the goal is to make combat different, I would make base monsters and then have a pool of slightly different abilities to add to each group. For example, say there are 24 orcs, each one has...

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing order

I find that funny too. If I have to read "it's an optional rule" one more time......[emoji2]

    Concept - Recharge Cantrips

Well then there is nothing wrong with the recharge mechanic. If the damage doesn't scale the cantrips will be virtually useless in combat though.

    Concept - Recharge Cantrips

What's the point? Not be snarky, I just can't figure out your motivation here.

    Concept - Recharge Cantrips

If you can use them less they should be more powerful. Up the damage or add an effect....

    Using Skills in Combat

I am toying around with allowing skill checks to be used as a bonus action in combat. As of right now, I have these: Investigate:A DC 15 (modified by circumstances) check allows the character to notice a weak spot in his opponents defenses, the character does 1d4 extra damage. On a roll of...

    [Homebrew] 5e Warblade

I don't how you are doing your math but +1 to hit and damage is better than than < +1 damge points GWS gives you. Also, the game "balance" depends on not increasing the to hit with permanent bonuses. I think throwing out +1's is bad form. Also, only choosing one type of weapon is kinda like a...

    [Homebrew] 5e Warblade

The two fighting styles you created are significantly better than the three "book" ones. Other than for roleplaying/style purposes, why wouldn't you take one of your two?

    D&D 5E (2014) Prison Break!

Yeah, if your group can/will come with a plan on their own, I would let them go for it. I know that many groups I play with probably wouldn't but that few that would, could make this a legendary encounter.

    D&D 5E (2014) Multiclassing order

This makes sense. The only things that can be effected by the order are: Hit points Saves Skills (thieves still get more to start right) Armor/Weapon Proficiency right? If you need one of those things make sure your first class has what you need.
