Sacrosanct why have you invoked my name? Oh... Personage eh... Butt-Kicking for Goodness!

D&D General The Case for Evil Orcs (Minor Rings of Power Spoilers)

On the one hand, if you and everyone at your table are cool with having always evil humanoids, have at it. Do what works for your group. On the other hand, the fun of having humanoids is they are humanlike, good and bad. Demons and Devas are caricatures of sapient creatures. They have no free...

    D&D 5E (2014) People's favourite lizardfolk adventures? Any system

I will also recommend I2 Tomb of the Lizard King. Great module. Lots of great memories of running and playing it. I also enjoyed Ssscaly Things from Dungeon #70. Lizardfolk and ruined towers in the Mere of Dead Men north of Waterdeep.

D&D General "I have played in or run a D&D campaign set in Greyhawk." (a poll)

True. 1E, 2E, 3.xE, and I am about to run my family through Lost Mines of Phandelver set in Sterich but starting in Keoland in Gradsul in place of Neverwinter. King Kimbertos and House Rhola are trying to expand the Empire again by helping their poor cousins in the March stabilize the war-torn...

D&D General Time for some good minis! WotC releasing "The Classic Collection"

I'm usually a nostalgia guy, but these leave me flat. I think we are spoiled by the sheer variety and quality of monster art these days. The price point is steep but these are not meant for table use, this is a collector-focused release. I know a few people who will grab these when they are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Spelljammer Errata

It's simple. You don't have someone who is colorblind pick house paint colors without having another set of eyes look it over before you work on the siding. D&D Design needs to have a Sensitivity/Inclusivity editor on its team. The ideas going into this version of Spelljammer to allude to...

    D&D 5E (2014) DnDBeyond leaks Dark Sun?

Athas will never be a utopia. It is a fundamentally broken world. This is not solarpunk. It shouldn't be. To quote the cinematic masterpiece Roadhouse, "... is like putting an elevator in an outhouse. It don't belong." It does a disservice to a good solarpunk setting and to Dark Sun. Does Dark...

    D&D 5E (2014) DnDBeyond leaks Dark Sun?

The problem is that you can't depict slavery without treading on a lot of real-world history. The kind of history that still works its way into people's present. Slavery requires a deft hand and skillful writing.

    D&D 5E (2014) DnDBeyond leaks Dark Sun?

The key to Dark Sun is that the setting is bleak, but not unchangeable. You can liberate a city-state from a Sorcerer King. You can help preservers and elemental shamans preserve the life of Athas and possibly reverse the damage of the defilers. It is a world at its worst and lowest point...

    D&D 5E (2014) DnDBeyond leaks Dark Sun?

William Shatner was one person who recently said this. He literally starred in several Star Trek episodes that explicitly addressed racial issues. I know he is older but facts or history sometimes get in the way of the narrative people want to have.

    D&D 5E (2014) DnDBeyond leaks Dark Sun?

Woohoo, another Dark Sun thread! Dark Sun is not coming out before 1DD. It's not. We don't want it to come out beforehand. DS is a valuable IP for Hasbro. There is very little in current media like it. It needs to be updated and vetted for modern audiences, however. Stuff is going to change...

D&D General New WOTC racism allegations regarding Hadozee and Spelljammer

4E was a solid game. It had some quirks that made it too different from where the game was with 3.5E. The weird naming conventions did not help endear 4E. I still love Picador goblins though, fight me! Edit: Posted before the warning Sorry folks.

D&D General New WOTC racism allegations regarding Hadozee and Spelljammer

Not a minstrel show pose. Also just terrible art. It is not the lute. The hadozee art uses a pose that was used as stereotypical racist shorthand. You don't see it. Most likely the D&D editors didn't either. It does not mean it isn't there.

D&D General New WOTC racism allegations regarding Hadozee and Spelljammer

This shows a fundamental problem with the D&D design crew. They were trying to create an homage to Planet of the Apes with the Hadozee, but failed to recognize the underlying themes being addressed in the SciFi novel and movies. They handle racial themes and the struggle for civil rights...

D&D General When D&D Co-Creator Dave Arneson Asked WotC For A Job!

I don't see the big deal. Adkinson knew enough of the history of D&D to recognize the good and ill of Arneson. The letter quickly confirmed the hearsay. Arneson was not hired or even considered for anything because WotC was buying a dead company's assets out of a sense of nostalgia and...

Spelljammer Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Review

I am still going to buy Spelljammer 5E. It does look like a good product and well done enough that I would have liked more of it. That says something. I like the 3 book format for a setting + adventure, but 64 pages is a tight, almost cramped space to develop a setting. I don't need to buy...

D&D General "I have played in or run a D&D campaign set in Eberron." (a poll)

I have played and run a few Eberron campaigns. It is a great setting and even better if you follow along with Keith Baker's blog. I am continually inspired and pumped up reading his takes on things. Even with dinosaur riding halflings and the Lightning rail, Eberron feels the closest to Greyhawk...

Planescape 5 New D&D Books Coming in 2023 -- Including Planescape!

I am most excited about the expanded Phandelver campaign. Lost Mines was a great way to introduce D&D to new players but required some adjustment to connect with any other adventure path.

Spelljammer Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Review

No, I imagine it is not a business failure for WotC. It is a misstep for me to purchase as much content in the future. This will become moot as D&D products become more tied to D&D Beyond with expanded online content and digital tokens/miniatures.
