Red Hand of Doom, Marked For Death encounter

Sounds like fun. I've actually once had a fight end up with the last two combatants at 0 hp and 1 hp. Long story short, two PCs (human paladin and half-orc barbarian) had to fight an orcish chief (also a barbarian) and his shaman in two simultaneous one-on-one duels. They go at it, with the...

    D&D 4E D&D4E = Totally Anime

:D I have to admit, however, that in my case it's usually "You're going to want to die anyway. But you do get to choose why you're going to want to die."

Need ideas for a good Greed Trap

I'd be surprised if any PC fell (pun unintended) for that. A pit with treasure on the other side should make at least some PCs suspicious, and I'd expect one of the first things to be done would be a casting a detect magic to see if any of the treasure is magical, or even someone tossing...

Shilsen's Eberron SH (Finished - The Last Word : 9/20/15)

I'm just generous. I give them what they want - and a little more. What? In that case, you need to get the books just so you can use them to beat some sense into them! It's 50 euros? Ow - that is pretty steep! All my evil guys are pretty reasonable! Six's player recently came up with a...

Virtuoso - Jarring sond and Spell Like

It is, however, very similar to spellcasting in certain ways, the big difference being that Sp abilities don't require V, S, and M components. Which is why I think a DM can reasonably rule either way on this question.

    I think that's a reasonable interpretation.

Tell me about it. What is it with silly animal names? Next thing you know there'll be maneuvers called Bull Rush!

    Recitation explanation complication

Go with what the body of the spell description in SC says, i.e. allies get a "+2 luck bonus to AC, on attack rolls, and on saving throws" or a +3 if they worship the same deity. The reference to foes in the "Area" entry seems to be a holdover from the old version.

Shilsen's Eberron SH (Finished - The Last Word : 9/20/15)

I've been juggling piles of stuff at work, so this writeup took a long time. I'm about 3 sessions behind at this time, and there's a lot more fun to come. Sometimes I'm not sure why I'm DMing these bums any more. They can go anywhere on the planet at will. Anywhere! Nobody mentioned that when...

    Tactical Quotient (TQ) for monsters

Yikes! I never play monsters according to my own intelligence. I run a game for a bunch of very buff PCs, who usually have only one or two encounters a day, invariably against much weaker (by EL/CR) opposition, and we average one PC going to -10 or below every two sessions. If I played the...

    Long-Term Injury Fun?

It's always a good idea to remember that the words in your head don't mean the same thing to everyone. That's hardly old school. If you want old school, check out the Iliad. Much of which is about being good at beating people up and capable of avenging insults against you. Personally, I...

    Tactical Quotient (TQ) for monsters

I'd agree with you if experience hadn't taught me that "perfectly intelligent human beings" is an oxymoron. Other than myself, of course ;) Personally, I always run enemies taking into account a combination of their Intelligence, Wisdom and flavor, as well as the circumstances. A group of...

    Opinions of Dragons of Eberron?

One more vote of confidence for the book. I just picked it up because my PCs were going to Argonnessen and I was planning to make some more use of the dragons, and it's jumped to 3rd on my list of most useful Eberron books (after the ECS and Sharn: City of Towers). Frankly, even if I wasn't...

How often do you use traps?

Essentially never. I don't run dungeon crawls and traps in general bore me. My Eberron campaign is just had its 75th session and I doubt we've had even 7 sessions where I featured traps, so I voted 0%.

Shilsen's Eberron SH (Finished - The Last Word : 9/20/15)

“…harnesses.” Six sits back in his chair after completing his narration. Sitting across the table from him are Tarya d’Cannith and Jerim d’Cannith, the two who had been there during his last meeting with the House, when he signed over all rights to the harnesses and their manufacture. And now...

Shilsen's Eberron SH (Finished - The Last Word : 9/20/15)

The quori within the warforged Saber continues to speak, saying with a reassuring tone, “We hope you are not too alarmed about this turn of events with the harnesses. We had always hoped that some might still exist in Xen’drik and be released into Khorvaire, and we’re sure it would have happened...
