Here Come The PRESTIGE CLASSES! Plus Rune Magic!

OkY, so I'm admitting up front I have only read through Page15. I'm only pisting to reinforce a couple pointd. 1) I have nothing against prestige classes. In fact, I like 'em. I don't see how my enjoying them detracts from anyone else's "fun.". With that said... 2) Offering something in one...

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] Arrive on Time - A General Guide to Wizardry

Please bit the black text! I'm with Legacy, can't read.

    D&D 5E (2014) Adventures not Adventure Paths

Then, IMHO, I would say you are using them as intended. Yes, you can, and many do, use the 5e Adventure Paths as one long campaign. But they are designed to be sandboxy, and it is incredibly easy to lift portions wholesale from the books.

    D&D 5E (2014) Char Ops forums: Something I wish hadn't come over.

Perhaps a list of points everyone can agree on? - Anyone can be a jerk, and anyone that considers their own playstyle to be superior and to be emulated by all others, and/or all other playstyles to be badwrongfun, is a jerk. - An "Optimizer" can be a jerk as much as an "Actor" can be a jerk...

[UPDATED] WotC To Close Forums - Including D&D and M:tG (aka "Welcome New Forum Members to EN World!

If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you'll see a selection box in the banner. I highly reccomend the "Legacy" style. Black background, orange and white/grey text. Many of us here at ENWorld prefer this style. This is also a reminder, and a head's up for newcomers, that...

[UPDATED] WotC To Close Forums - Including D&D and M:tG (aka "Welcome New Forum Members to EN World!

This is probably me shouting into the night, but I think a Stickied Welcome thread, (perhaps cross-subforum?) might be a good idea, Morrus ? Or, at least, posted by someone more knowledgeable than I. A positive Welcome! with a brief intro to who/what ENWorld is, a summary of the rules with the...

    D&D 5E (2014) citadel of the planes - thoughts?

Treat those alignment changes as you would the petrification/save-or-die effects, and make sure the characters/players are aeare of the consequences beforehand. I radical, forced change in PC alignment is the equivalent of character death, no? So, as a DM, do what yoy would do in that situation.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana Takes on Modern Magic

Back to the article itself.... I will likely never use this material - especially considering that I have enough trouble finding the time, energy, and wherewithal to assemvle a regular group! With that said, I applaud the article. Even if I never play in a Modern setting, it was dripping with...

New Sage Advice: Class Features, Combat, Spells, & Monsters

As others have mentioned, nothing surprising, nothing too controversial. Though, I appreciate the transparency and clarification (bonus action != action, natural armor != armor, damage order wrt arcane ward). I appreciate the "DM perogative" and "Player's don't get to flip through the Monster...

    New WotC Layoffs?

First, I tend to wear rose-colored glasses, so there's that. Does no one realize how much time it actually takes to outsource/delegate/mamage a product? Let alone a product line? Let alone a creative product line. Any of these "outsourced" companies and their representatives can tell you the...

Is "Mystic" a bad class name? For a psion, yes.

    How to cure a vampire?

Campaign-long quest. At first, just chasing rumors for several levels. Then, finding a legitimate sage with a couple ideas requiring MacGuffins. Finally, after collecting everything needed, consider whether the sister is even worth redeeming at that point. And/or, have it conflict with...

D&D 5E (2014) [Dark Sun] How Would YOU Handle Defiling in 5e?

I love the concept of "defiling," and readily confess I have neither rrad Dark Sun books (any, from any edition!) or played in a Dark Sun game. I like the idea of a "preserver" being the default wizard/whatever. I want the "Defiler" to be overpowered and tempting, with only in-game aocial...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Ammunition

I think it might actually be worthwhile to look at it from the player's in-the-moment perspective. Not the DM, not the character. When would you, the player, choose a +1 arrow of a certain value (I don't recall, 250gp?) over a normal arrow? In which situation would you find it worthwhile to...

    D&D 5E (2014) DM: overwhelmed with creatures

With index cards to track... Colored ones can be super helpful. Also, I keep PCs oriented vertically, monsters oriented horizontally, with names, hp, and conditions being the most visible - much easier to find and tell at a glance.

D&D 5E (2014) Crystal Ball: A year in, how do you think 5E will unfold going forward?

Speculation, especially considerimg D&D's current state and what WotC is obviously keeping secret/close to the vest, is difficult, at best. So this is a combination of divining/desiring. 2016-2018: one FR "AP" book, one <new campaign setting> (Dragonlance/Eberron, etc) "AP" book. With free...

D&D 5E (2014) Stink of the City and other unpleasentries, do you pay attention to them?

Short answer: hand-waving. Stink, magic, available resources, racism, gender-equality, homophobia.... All this tends to be ignored or have the most idle of mentionings in a game. The game is about defeating monsters and Evil, anything beyond that is window dressing. With that said, depending...

    D&D 5E (2014) Odd-numbered ability scores

I get the desire, and I don't want to demand that people play the game my way. But I like the odd-ability scores. It makes every ability score increase a true decision-point, and enforces the concept of delayed-gratification. If you get something no matter what, where's the choice? Where's...

    Drizzt v Raistlin

With the discussion of Drizzt's role in Out of the Abyss, I got to thinking... Drizzt and Forgotten Realms are argued to be the "most popular" and sell the most units. I don't know, and I can't argue one way or the other. But, wasn't Dragonlance the most prolific novel-setting? Didn't it...
