    Shadowdark Finally Played Shadowdark

Shadowdark sums up the principles of modern OSR really well.

    Shadowdark Finally Played Shadowdark

Shadowdark has a lot less spells relying on saving throws. In D&D many spells fizzle because of saves. In SD, if you do not lose the spell you can keep casting it. Wizards start with 3 spells and priests 2. At 1st level you gain your first talent and all of them will make the wizard better at...

    Common Pitfalls in Game Design

Many game designers today say they started when they were kids, making crazy unbalanced games for their siblings and friends. Learning new things without restraints and fear of failure is a fantastic way to learn (unless it's skydiving).

    Modern Action RPGs

Outgunned is a slick modern day cinematic action rpg. It uses a d6 dice pool system where players are trying to get equal sets, rather than higher numbers, so 3 1s is better than 2 6s. It's created by 2 Little Mice and definitely not crunchy. I got a copy recently and it looks like it'll work...

What are your thoughts on TTRPGs with non-standard dice?

I doubt that's true. Isn't it more likely that they think these dice work for their game and you just don't like them? I do not believe that they're showing off.

What are your thoughts on TTRPGs with non-standard dice?

I have no problem with them. I don't find them a barrier at all.

    Common Pitfalls in Game Design

My point is Wildsea is aiming specifically at a particular playstyle and its processes are geared for that style. The ideas you mentioned that would improve the game do not fall under the Wildsea design mandate. They are great for other games, of course. Game designers should know what the...

    Common Pitfalls in Game Design

Wildsea, in my opinion, is a very good example of game design. It is designed around the idea of a very flavourful world that is created to be player led. We don't need all the lore around the cactus people, for example, because the player of the cactus person defines the lore themselves through...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Also, the more interesting encounters, NPCs, etc., the more likely it can be spun and altered to taste. If I read a bland module, I'm very unlikely to be inspired to make it my own.

Podcast #359 Livestreaming Today: BG3 is 2, D&D Beer, Cozy Hobbit Detectives, Mutants & Masterminds 4E

According to everything I learned from Hollywood @Morrus your accent has you covered for French, plus, all ancient historical accents from Norse, Egyptian Rome, Greek, etc. plus any and all evil empires, both fantasy and science fiction. I assume you could sub in for Atlantean as well. That's a...

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

Loved that. I got so much use of that boxed set and I wasn't even using it for D&D. And the Waterdeep city boxed set had all those maps that fit together. We spread them all over the kitchen floor (back when kneeling on a kitchen floor was a lot easier) and just explored! Fixed typo, floor, not...

    D&D 5E (2024) Heroes of the Borderlands

Brad Kerr's Wyvern Songs for OSE is my favourite introduction for new players. It's a little sandbox area with quirky, imaginative, fun locations and awesome NPCs. We had many hours of fun with this little book. And yes, Merry Mushmen does amazing work!

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

This definitely wasn't my favourite Jake portrayal, as he is kind of annoying. DS9 isn't perfect but overall, I like how Jake is handled character wise.

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I like the fact that Sisko's son is just a typical kid. He has no interest in joining Starfleet and is pursuing writing. He's still figuring himself out and can be exasperating at times but not constantly. I love the relationship between Sisko and Jake, which always remains close. It's cool...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Yeah, it's interesting that Jake starts off as the more mature one and a good influence on Nog. Nog outstips him, maturity wise, and you can see them drift apart. It feels very real. DS9 has the best characters in this group of Trek shows.

New Daggerheart Kickstarter Announced, Chris Perkins, Jeremy Crawford's Plans Revealed

Darrington does avoid crowd funding. But these cards are tricky. Hit? Flop? Probably in between but no way to know. They are also an expanding company which can be a risky spot to be in. KS seems a good idea.
