I've run several sessions of FU with little difficulty. Players are quite successful. Remind players that they can aid each other very successfully, and remind them to pay attention to all the tactical choices their abilities give them. Definitely keep the Fabula points flowing.
My only...
I'm already picturing my grimdark frog. Scarred. Black ragged cloak and vicious looking sword. Hat pulled low. Speaks in short gutteral sentences with croaky (couldn't resist) voice. Underestimating him is a big mistake. It could work.
There's a comic book that focuses on pets dealing with the...
You're fine. Shadowdark doesn't have to be unending brutalism. 😊 Most classes that offer something every level work well and are fun. Yes, there are some imbalances with some 3pp, but that's to be expected.
Personally, I feel a rulesbook should be Tinker to taste, not Tinker to fix. These crafting rules seem broken and untested. This could be a challenge for inexperienced GMs.
They're cool but I know we'll never buy one. We use an old dining room table in the basement, along with our bookshelves of games, and a wood chest full of gaming goodies like maps, tokens, miniatures we haven't been using anymore, etc.
Since there are a lot of claims that 2024 is explicitly targeting new GMs and players, there needs to be more advice around this issue. 2024 has changed its stance on 5e's "magic items are rare and special" with crafting rules and pricing. It feels inevitable to me that the game risks the old...
We are playing Fate next. I'll be a player.
Just got Break! in the mail but not sure when it'll get used. I'm also thinking of running a Vaesen game soon but in middle of Fabula Ultima right now.
I think D&D will remain popular. The danger is if it dips too far for Hasbro. They might go with a 6th edition or they might shelve it and relaunch in 10-20 years. Hasbro does not sell their IPs. It'll depend on how well D&D sells, if Hasbro gets another hot commodity that leaves D&D in the...
Well yes, but funnels are a different beast. And of course, not all new players are cautious and some will throw themselves into reckless danger. I've just noticed a trend is all.
I'm not seeing Indie publishers sitting in their corners wringing their hands. I'm seeing enthusiasm, joy and a lot of creativity coming from indie developers. Most are not going to be able to quit their day jobs, but that's not why they're creating.
Ars Magica magic takes some effort to learn but it's more creativity than intelligence I think. You get better at it, and there are a good selection of premade spells you can learn and fire off. Ars Magica wizards are above doing too much "grubby adventuring" anyway. 😁
You've got your companion...
There are some misconceptions about Shadowdark that keep coming up.
Shadowdark is only good for dungeon crawling: The core book has many charts for numerous non - dungeon environments and a section on hex crawling. The torch timer gimmick is not that central to play.
The game only really...
The first game I ran was Chivalry and Sorcery. Probably not the best first pick.😁 Had a good time, though. If I were to go back, I'd loosen my grip on the plots.
