Plenty Of Time To Die: A Shadowdark Review

I went digging. Cursed Scroll#5 takes place entirely in the Shadowdark, as an Underland theme. I'm looking forward to the new zines. Kelsey packs so much potential into few pages.

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

I agree that the game is moving more into nailing down every little rule. Having clear rules without the need for "rulings over rules" is a perfectly fine design choice. The irony is WotC seems to be failing, judging by the many posts and videos about broken changes and exploitable loopholes. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Softening Concentration

I never used concentration. Dumped it right off the bat with no ill effects on my game.

@pawsplay, "overprocessed" is a perfect description!

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

Okay. I was thinking of all the actions and conditions which come off as rulesy. If this is more natural, that's good but not good if it's confusing. Seems to be a lot of confusion already. Here's hoping this is more clear once the book hits general release.

    D&D 5E (2024) Dual Wielding

I'm reading all this and my head is aching Are we really sure 5e should be the gateway game? The revised edition definitely seems to be upping the difficulty with convoluted "rulesy" writing.

D&D 5E (2024) Learning to Love the Background System

If rolling isn't allowed to be redone, you also risk starting well below the pinnacle of power. The danger is allowing players to scrap bad rolls and rerolling until the perfect array comes forth. Ideally, rolling is done for surprise purposes and the thrill of gambling. But you have to be...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

If only wizards would learn that they can exchange years of study for picnics in the woods.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

Even the Guide Background gives you spells. If I'm thinking of wilderness guides, I'm not even remotely assuming magic. Game is definitely going overboard on spells/magic.

@Aldarc, now you'll have to start your own gaming company. 😏

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook 2024: The Official Advance Review

The 2024 edition is moving away from the natural language and "rulings over rules" that 2014 touted as a big improvement over 4e. Everything has a rule and is defined by actions and conditions. While, I never thought 2014 was strong in rulings over rules, the new edition feels quite different...

D&D 5E (2024) Learning to Love the Background System

They're banal and feel like mostly human backgrounds. I dislike them so much. They do not encourage creativity and players are going to pick the mechanic bits and pay no attention to the actual background. And as mentioned on another thread, we're going to see a lot of sailor monks. Guess they...

    D&D General Who shouldn't play D&D

Please do not exclude hamsters. I'm sure my hamster could have played D&D if she had chosen. She much preferred board games, however, and the chewable cardboard tokens.

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook 2024: The Official Advance Review

This is odd. The book is definitely more mechanistic and is intent on spelling out everything. Personally, I don't like all the actions and conditions. It's awkward phrasing.

    D&D General Who shouldn't play D&D

Mindy would be very happy in my daughter's game. She runs no-death games, especially for players who stress over possible character death. Her games aren't easy however, as there can be plenty of unpleasant consequences, just no character death. D&D can absolutely be for Mindy!

    D&D General Who shouldn't play D&D

Sometimes D&D might not be the game for someone. A player at my table pretty much quit rpgs altogether because he doesn't really like D&D. Being exposed to other games has him excited for the hobby. This is the only reason I can think of. You might like other systems better due to genre or...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

If panic occurs, mistakes are made. Yes, it happens. And like I said, a company should make a genuine apology and go at least a little bit above and beyond to rectify their error and regain customer trust. Staying calm in a crisis is part of being in the business world, right there in 1st year...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Player's Handbook Video Redactions & Takedowns

Competently run companies do not panic. A good company makes sincere apologies for being in error(which WotC did) and then go above and beyond to make up for the mistake (which WotC did not.) Most customers/clients are forgiving of errors if a company does at least a little more than an apology.

    D&D 5E (2024) So IS it a new edition?

It's a new edition. Most rpgs have new additions while keeping the core mechanics the same. D&D is one of the ver very few games that will do complete overhauls.
