I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

Don't believe so. It had an extremely successful Kickstarter. People just seem to want to tear this game down as a heartbreaker. As long as it delivers, and I see no reason why it wouldn't, it's not a heartbreaker. Heartbreakers are unsold games sitting in designers' garages.

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Gotham City is a place of decay. It's full of deserted factories, warehouses and fairs, with all the items and rides just left to rot (and become a playground for villains, of course.) Bruce Wayne, did at one point in the comics, support a modern, more compassionate Arkham. It didn't last...

Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

First of all, Wyatt and Schneider are not even remotely new blood. 😁 I think, and this is pure speculation, WotC is hoping to not have to fill Crawford's and Perkins'positions. They maybe thinking that they can get by with project leads over product leads. In the article, WotC says they are not...

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Off topic. When I was teaching kindergarten, I had a student obsessed with Batman. He'd print Bruce Wayne on all his work, and of course on Halloween, he came as Batman. He spent the entire day floating about, rarely talking. Oh my God, it was hilarious!

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Mask of the Phantasm. Kevin Conroy had the perfect Batman and Bruce Wayne voice. The story is very strong with superhero action and a compelling character driven arc. It's moody, humorous and engaging.

Shadowdark Setting Looks Set To Be 2025's First Million Dollar TTRPG Crowdfunder

I fully agree. It's also so easy to dial the lethality up or down. I've run Shadowdark in a variety of modes, and it's worked really well. I think people are now realizing that SD is flexible, and doesn't have to be just a dangerous crawl through deep dungeons.

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

I have many rpgs. Some are written very sparsely, like a manual and use keywords. This is fine. Others are written with richer, more conversational language. There are advantages to both styles. My problem with D&D 2024 is it's attempting to be clear and manual like, but is not very...

Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Review Of The Wildsea

This game is fantastic. It provides many options for play and fires the imagination. Nobody has to memorize a bunch of lore. The background and species information is deliberately sketchy enough that players will bring their ideas to the table. Not sure how to roleplay a cactus? What you're...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

In my example the word, action is capitalized, therefore indicating that is the action keyword. Saying you can make a utilize object action is not clearer, just more wordy and painful to read. I have no problem with keywords and concise language in a RPG. I do not like the words action and...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone else dislike the "keyword" style language of 5.24?

I can't stand the writing in 5.24. It's one of the reasons I'm not switching. It is that grating. The writing style is not making the game any clearer by forcing the reader through a whole book of passive language, as well as innumerable uses of the words conditions and actions. I don't see how...

Spoilers Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

I finished the entire series. Just wanted to say after mocking "Power and Lace" up thread, I want to mention "It's Only a Paper Moon." This is an amazing episode and one of my favourites. Aaron Eisenberg's acting chops shines through, demonstrating fantastic emotional range. The directing is...

Quinn’s Quest to play Skyrealms of Jorune!

This was fun, especially the two players learning about the world. Also, so many skills and rolling systems. And what the heck with the hand slapping skill? 😂 We still have our old boxed set but never actually played it. Going to drag it out today, for sure. It is a game that we laugh at now...

    How would YOU change Shadowdark?

Oh, sorry, misunderstanding here. I am in total agreement with you. My bonus points comment are directed at other folk who don't like B&W art. And I agree you don't need B&W for old school. Either one works. It's the quality and whether it fits the material that is important.

    How would YOU change Shadowdark?

Dolmenwood has gorgeous art. OSE has some great colour spreads too. Anyway, colour art does not get bonus quality points for having colour. Both require skill. Old school games can go either way and fit the writing.
