E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

I think super-powered characters (like in comic books) also follow this progression. Although they may regularly gain powers at first (like Clark Kent in the televesion series Smallville), this eventually stops. Thereafter a super-powered character might devise a new trick or two, but don't...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

I think this is very wise. Don't waste time designing something that the players don't want to use. In the main threads about this, such as the discussion of Ryan Dancey's quartile post on rpg.net, or even Wulf Ratbane's Sweet Spot thread, the "Sweet Spot" has always been a range of levels...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

How much time should be spent at levels 1-5 in an E6 campaign? If the group goes through as many level appropriate encounters as in a standard 1-20 campaign, they'll spend 25% of their adventuring career in that interval; the rest will be gaining 20+ bonus feats. I think that is a little...

MMV: Not sure I like this...

It's not quite symmetrical with Mage Slayer. How about if the victim's taking a full attack action were to draw an attack of opportunity?

I'd suggest "Ebrycan." Which would be written E6rycan, of course. You have to decide if 4th level spells are a bug or a feature. If you *want* 4th level spells to be accessible (maybe banning a few, like solid fog, polymorph and black tentacles) you might consider changing the sorcerer spell...

Are you under an NDA? What centaurs are these?

    Order of the Stick Updated

I like how the fiendish animals all have little devil horns (well, at least Mammoths and Octopuses). And apparently celestial animals have little halos.

I'd like to make another plug for Eex, which requires exponentially more xp to advance. You start at 3rd and advance at 5K (4th), 10K (5th), 20K (6th), 40K (7th), etc. You get a feat at 5K intervals between advancing. This means you have substantially more time at 6th level than in a standard...

Potteresque touches to a magic system

I was thinking that there are various features of the magic system in the Harry Potter novels that could be imported quite easily for a change of flavor. Not a full blown conversion, just a few touches here and there. For instance: 1. Spells with somatic components require a wand as a focus...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (with PDFs!)

I would make it so the cost/difficulty the same as buying a scroll or hiring an NPC to do it. In game terms you don't actually do this, but the time, gp and "special" (quest) components would be the same. e.g. suppose in a standard game the high priest will raise a dead party member of a 6th...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (new revision)

I'm kinda puzzled by these attempts to break the level 6 ceiling (4th level spell slots, feats to increase skill rank caps, Improved Critical, large Wildshape, etc.) If you want to get access to level 7 or 8 abilities, allow level advancement at long intervals. If you are going to take away...

I second the idea of using solid fog on the party and seeing what they do.

E6: The Game Inside D&D (new revision)

Hi ainatan! I like the way you think: In the other thread I proposed the idea of never actually eliminating level advancement, but just requiring exponentially more xp. And a "heroic start" of third level. For example Level XP Class Bonus Feats 3 0 0 4 5.000 0 5 10.000 0...

E6: The Game Inside D&D (new revision)

A minor patch to the fighter would be a general feat that can be used to purchase two feats from the fighter list. Make Fighter 6 a prerequisite. As far as xp goes, I think that 300 * CR2 / level would be better than 300 * CR.

E6: The Game Inside D&D (new revision)

Why not play by the book? That gives the same xp when CR = level. Maybe add an LA (value to be determined by playtesting- +1/5 feats sounds about right). It'll break down eventually, but it will work longer and for a broader range of challenges than a linear formula. If monsters are...

So 12 gnolls are worth as much as a mature adult white dragon? I think this formula might be a bit *too* simple.

    E6: The Game Inside D&D

I find it helpful to review the first post of this thread- the design goals of E6. I read it as preserving the heroic fantasy sweet spot for as long as possible, and with as simple a fix as possible. Not worrying about whether the fighter is too weak at 6th level. Not trying to make Wuxia or...
