D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

It caused a huge stir in FR fandom when they did it. The 3e FRCS is a very good book, but the poster map was one of the few missteps. These new maps adhere very closely to the original Ed's/1e/2e scale and base geography.

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

Several appeared in the 3e book Dragons of Faerûn and one was a character in the novel War in Tethyr. That's actually on par or even better than brass dragon appearances, from what I can find. The only brass dragon appearance I can find (outside of Dragons of Faerûn, which features all types)...

Thank you for finding that article. I spent almost an hour googling trying to find it last night lol.

D&D 5E (2024) How excited are you for the 2 upcoming Forgotten Realms books?

I can't answer, as there isn't an option above "Very". In fact, you'd probably have to have at least two options above "Very" for me to give a truthful answer.

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

Well, it's a bit more than that. There was once an aricle on the Wizards' website (and I think it was in Dragon magazine as well) that showed them, in pictures, literally taking scissors to a copy of the 1e/2e map, removing narrow east-west strips, and then pushing it all back together to...

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

Yeah, but they squished and removed bits and pieces to make it all fit on one poster. You can tell the difference if you examine them closely. This new map seems to adhere closely to Ed's original and the 1e/2e maps.

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

Right, that's exactly what I was describing. The Howling Gap is at the eastern border of Semphar, and Nimbral would be at the very southwesternmost corner if it were visible.

I hope not, as those didn't cover the southern coast.

One thing overall, though - I'm very impressed with both the map's detail and its beauty. But then again, Schley has always been known for being able to provide both in his maps. I imagine once we see the whole thing, it will be by far the best official map of the setting we've ever had.

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

It depends on how far south and east they go. If they go as far as Ed's original maps - southernmost latitude being at Nimbral and the very southernmost coast of Faerûn between Halruaa and Dambrath, easternmost longitude at the Howling Gap and the eastern limits of Ulgarth, it will just miss...

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

That's just previous coverage supplying names. Cormyr is actually much denser in locations than the Dalelands, so much so that the kingdom's name is almost over the border to Sembia. And Turmish is very dense as well, even though it's nowhere near any of the five featured regions.

D&D 5E (2024) Atlas of Faerun (with some pictures from the internet)

We might get a small outline map inset of the other parts of the setting, like in the 3e FRCS, but I doubt this detailed map will go further than Faerûn proper. The real question is whether it will stop before reaching the south coast like the 1e and 2e maps, or cover that area as well like in...

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

Yeah, it is definitely physically and physiologically impossible. But... so what? In the end, it's also physically and physiologically impossible for any dragon to fly. In that case, why draw the line here? Once impossibility is reached, you might as well go for it and have some interesting...

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

I, and apparently quite a few other people in this thread, do think it creates a particularly interesting aesthetic.

D&D 5E (2024) Opinions on the Topaz Dragon Reverse Wings?

This. Gem dragons are supposed to be a bit weird. Also, I like how the art has both yellow and blue topaz components. The book is due out in little over a week, and I can't wait to look through it. All the art we've seen from it looks spectacular.

D&D 5E (2024) Next issue of Game Informer will have details on the two upcoming Forgotten Realms books

I guess, like Schrödinger's cat, we won't know until we open it. I am curious what the monster/individual villain ratio will be, as there have been indications that a good number of individual foes will be appearing.

D&D 5E (2024) Next issue of Game Informer will have details on the two upcoming Forgotten Realms books

Honestly, it makes sense, given the how the 2024 PHB presents orcs. It would be completely reasonable to have a homeland where orcs of every alignment could be from. And that area is rough and hardly mapped - there's plenty of room in the Spine of the World and the Ice Spires between the...

D&D General The Purple Dragon Knights are tied to an Amethyst Dragon (confirmed)

Doesn't matter if it's a strawman or not, doesn't matter who needs to prove if it's good or not - the question has been posed. Can you contemplate the mere possibilty of it being good? Yes or no?

But you're essentially rejecting it without even tasting the food. Since the books aren't out and all we have are previews, it's like you're standing outside the window looking at the menu and going "Nah, Swiss-Swazi will never work. It ignores the previous food lore of both cultures, and the...
