LOL, Emberashh used the same tactic on me. It's the wonderful block feature that lets you win every debate by only seeing your side of it. How they cope with the real world is a mystery.

The "I Didn't Comment in Another Thread" Thread

I'll guess I'll have to stop, deliberately trolling trying to understand what you mean since I can no longer see anything you are posting. What sort of person does a quote reply after blocking you?

If they ever do explain how this is meant to work could someone explain it too me. Since everything bar the original post has disappeared.

So your verisimilitude has you being able to gather whatever you want wherever you want, regardless of if X resource could logically be there... or does it not really matter what resource you are gathering, that are just resource points towards making mana and stamina potions, it could be fungus...

D&D 5E (2024) Rests should be dropped. Stop conflating survival mechanics with resource recovery.

You said you can gather while travelling, forgive me if I believed the implication from that is that you couldn't gather while not travelling. Or you wouldn't be able to find X ingredient on say a plane where X doesn't exist, or in a dungeon where it couldn't grow, or a city with the same...

D&D 5E (2024) Rests should be dropped. Stop conflating survival mechanics with resource recovery.

Because your rest can be interrupted by up to a hour of fighting and you still get the benefits of a long rest, one encounter swiftly dealt with isn't going to do stop you getting all your spells and health back. Well yes that is more of an issue, I'd just have had the portal close if they...

So no gathering in a dungeon, no gathering in a city, probably no gathering on another plane, even if you are in an area you can gather you have set difficulties and rarity for the terrain type (terrain which the DM decides). Seems the DM still has a huge amount of control over when the players...

D&D 5E (2024) Rests should be dropped. Stop conflating survival mechanics with resource recovery.

I read it but the stuff about the high level game where resource recovery isn't as big an issue isn't really relevant the what we are discussing (a potion based mechanic to replace the rest based mechanic for resource recovery). You can't gather a resource if it doesn't exist, or there isn't a...

D&D 5E (2024) Rests should be dropped. Stop conflating survival mechanics with resource recovery.

The DM controls what is in the game world, which includes any resources, such as what you need to craft your mana potions. Well they still need to get the DM's permission effectively to do that so, again he still has control of the recovery mechanic. So what's your problem with the DM...

So you are still either incumbent on the DM to control the availability of the resource, or the players can farm as much they like. Also building a functional economy seems a heck of a lot of work, compared to just resting.

Okay so how are they handed out by the game designer? What mechanism are you using?

D&D 5E (2024) Rests should be dropped. Stop conflating survival mechanics with resource recovery.

Ah so mana potions are a limited resource... who determines the limitation? In your original post you seem to be complaining that players had to negotiate the amount of rest time available with the DM to regain resources. Your solution is they have to now negotiate the amount of mana potions...

It's more a case of you often see people who don't know about 4th Ed suggesting solutions for 5th Ed problems that are remarkably like solutions that were used in 4th Ed for 3rd Ed problems, that were reintroduced because Pathfinder did so well in comparison.

    D&D 5E (2024) How did I miss this about the Half races/ancestries

But there are evil nations that aren't tribal. So we have good and evil tribal groups and good and evil non-tribal groups. So the just being evil, doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm not sure about the brutishness and stupidity of particular groups, there are certainly tribal groups in D&D that...

To be honest you can do both, in both. With magical healing you can easily get to full health in short rest even if they are doing repeat castings of a spell that cures 1 hp a go. Time isn't really a major factor if you aren't counting in 6 second rounds.

Or short rest abilities recover between encounters. You could have Daily Powers and Encounter Powers.... where have I heard that before? Seems like we are reinventing the wheel, a wheel lots of people thought was wonky last time it was on the D&D car. Personally I liked it, but it didn't go...

Yes because imaging my character having little blue and red bars to track mana and health like a computer game is so much more realistic than imaging my character recovering by having some time to rest and treat their injuries. Let me just reach into my backpack and pull out one of mana potions...
