D&D General Favorite Less Used Low CR Creatures?

A third vote for Mephits. Such a ridiculously versatile creature with tons of variants and personality stereotypes. Since they don't even have the same needs or morality as living creatures, the sky is the limit on how you can portray them.

D&D General It's Game Night! What's On the Table?

Chronicles of Darkness, 5E, and Pathfinder 2E.

D&D General A.I. D&D Session Transcripts and Summaries Example

A friend of mine came up with a clever use for his. He has his AI record sessions, then asks it to make summaries of specific topics (people, locations, cultures) and output the data to a personal wiki. Something like "Hey Alice, what do we know about Cragstone Spire?" Then it puts everything it...

Unearthed Arcana Kiss of Mephistopheles: Unbalancing?

It's a neat bit of tech since it gives the GOO access to fireball without having previously known it, but a Warlock who is using his spell slots for damage isn't going to rock any boats on the power scale. I would allow it, if you are giving other players the same opportunities to nudge the...

D&D 5E (2024) Anyone Else Hoping For a new Summoning Spell in the FRPG?

A spell that makes any existing summon unable to fight, but extends their duration to 24 hours. "Make our camp, minion!"

Critical Role To Wrap Up Third Campaign, New Exandria Unlimited Miniseries Announced

C1 had so many great moments. Briarwoods, Kevdak, Raishan, Vecna, Search for Grog, even the incredibly tense moment when they almost had a TPK in Hell. It was the closest they ever came to a TPK also. C2 had some solid ones. Avantika, Gelidon, Tombtakers, Vokodo, Laughing Hand. C3 had a few...

Still waiting for Liam and Sam to play a grumpy old married couple.

Critical Role To Wrap Up Third Campaign, New Exandria Unlimited Miniseries Announced

Yeah. I'm definitely going to give them a fair chance on C4 no matter what system they use, but I really need both the Cast and the System to be interesting for me to stick around. I like more systems than 5E, but if the system ends up not interesting me then I wouldn't stay just for the cast.

D&D General Anyone else notice this?

I'm not sure I would want D&D to be more roleplay heavy, despite the fact that I roleplay FAR more than I ever do combat related things. Hear me out. D&D has incredibly strong wargaming roots, to the point that I consider D&D to be "50% Wargame" to this day. Can you find a subclass that is not...

D&D General BG3 Impact: Players Embracing the BG3 Companions As PCs

None of them, really. I did see an uptick in people interested in vampire spawn and vampire-like characters, but directed them to the Dhampir race. None of them were trying specifically to be Astarion, though. And to be fair, the uptick in interest in vampire-like characters (and werewolves...

Critical Role To Wrap Up Third Campaign, New Exandria Unlimited Miniseries Announced

This is just Matt keeping himself legally distinct. He was on good terms with many folk at WotC for a while now, but it saves everyone some hassle if he uses generic terms. He doesn't have to ask permission, and WotC isn't obliged to write a contract or defend their IP from a friend (a legal...

Critical Role To Wrap Up Third Campaign, New Exandria Unlimited Miniseries Announced

I will admit the ending has seemed almost pre-ordained for years now. I'm sure Matt would allow things to end a different way, he's always been willing, but the players just haven't made any big plot changing decisions... so everything is sliding towards the place you knew it was going.

    D&D 5E (2024) New Celestials | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

Yeah. "The planet broke before the abracabra military broke" just doesn't have the same ring to it. I mean, I have no problem with the guard having a technical name (like many things in 40k), but they will always be both to me. Also, I love auto-correct and I'm leaving it that way.

    D&D 5E (2024) New Celestials | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

There's no real issue with having multiple types. 5E doesn't even prevent things from having multiple types if the DM wants them to have multiple types. It's just silent on the subject.

    D&D 5E (2024) New Celestials | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

It's an understood Magical [Blank]. Magical Beast, Magical Humanoid, Magical Giant. It allows for augmented versions of any other type, without the unnecessary restriction of being just Beasts.

    D&D 5E (2024) New Celestials | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

They can drop the "Beast" part and just use Magical as a catch-all for things greater than their origins (but not a Monstrosity).

    D&D 5E (2024) New Celestials | 2024 Monster Manual | D&D

I would love a category called "Magical" that describes things that have been augmented beyond their origins, but without the baggage of being a Monstrosity. A "Magical" thing can be from any other type, but is somehow more for whatever reason. Giant Eagles, Pegasus, the child of a mortal and a...

Critical Role To Wrap Up Third Campaign, New Exandria Unlimited Miniseries Announced

It ships in the Spring of 2025. But you can get your hands on the Playtest Open Beta right now, if you want. I haven't really taken a look at it to make a judgement. I really struggle to get my players interested in anything but D&D, Chronicles of Darkness, or Pathfinder 2E.
