D&D 5E (2014) What Level To Hunt A Great Wyrm?

The ominous great wyrm has a massive black ballista bolt lodged through its eye from some prior battle. It struggles to think clearly, but does have moments of lucidity. Even other dragons have discreetly put money and items into the pot to help end its suffering. Now you can justify any...

    D&D General Ignoring the rules!

The rule I break the most is... the attack rules for monsters. Say a gorgon charges you and hits. If it's a mini boss, I'm probably going to ask for a strength save, or you get shoved back and smashed against the wall. Or something similarly spicy. Or a horde of imps grappling you even though...

D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I'm most of the way through beating it with Abserd, work just ate all my free time. I read about someone beating it at Level 1 with lots of barrelmancy, and I think I heard about someone beating it just by walking?

D&D General If you could be any D&D species in real life…

Warforged I'm already pretty transhumanist, so going full terminator sounds like a plus to me! Unknown age limit, advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, resistance to poison damage, you don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe, you are immune to disease, you don't need to sleep, and...

D&D 5E (2014) Convince me that the Ranger is a necessary Class.

You give him a big pile of spell points but only let him recover between story arcs. Even that would be generous by LOTR standards. Many of the supernatural creatures in LOTR had vast power, but once it was used up... it was just gone. Knowing how to conserve and only using it at the right...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle randomly rolling for stats

I let my players roll, then every set of rolls becomes an option for every player. This definitely results in more powerful characters, but that is something I can easily account for as a DM. It also gives everyone the fun of rolling, but protects them from vast differences between sets (unless...

D&D 5E (2024) Deborah Ann Woll and Matt Mercer consulted on the 2024 DMG.

Yeah, I've seen Aabria Iyengar run games like Misfits and Magic and she does pretty well. Energetic, descriptive, and intelligent. But judging from EXU1 it seemed like D&D was not her game of choice. I'm also not sure why EXU1 started off like a sandbox when they had such limited run time. She...

The issues are... Well, I'll try to be detail free with my spoilers and speak in broad strokes.

D&D 5E (2024) Deborah Ann Woll and Matt Mercer consulted on the 2024 DMG.

The whole thing is silly to me, because (as @Oofta mentions) players have always been able to discuss things with each other between sessions! You might talk tactics about an upcoming fight. If two players wanted to have their characters take things in a romantic direction, you would certainly...

D&D 5E (2024) Deborah Ann Woll and Matt Mercer consulted on the 2024 DMG.

She's very good. She does have an intense love of puzzles that causes her players to get stuck at least once per "story", but it's basically endearing at this point. "Ohh, here comes the puzzle." :p

    D&D 5E (2014) I don’t really care what rules the players use.

Jedi are not supposed to have any strong emotions at all. They are calm and order, as opposed to the chaos of strong emotions.

    D&D 5E (2014) I don’t really care what rules the players use.

Yep. No amount of PC power is going to threaten the DM, the important thing is how the players feel about each other. If the other players are cheering on the Hulk while he smashes? Good! It's when another player says they feel like they can't compete, or that their toes are getting stomped on...

Critical Role Critical Role Launches Subscription Streaming and Member Service

They do that now. The shows are broadcast on Twitch at the iconic Thursday Night, where fans gather and chat as a massive watch party. The mods of the main CR Reddit are very strict about possible criticism or negativity, and many reasonable (by my standards) comments are removed. Many of the...

Critical Role Critical Role Launches Subscription Streaming and Member Service

There really isn't much difference between CR being live or pre-recorded, except how the cast got spoiled a few times watching chat theories. The recorded stuff is handled almost exactly the same as the live shows. They barely do anything different.

D&D General How often do you complete a campaign as a player?

I complete several major story arcs of 3-5 months each, but usually we just keep going until schedules or system fatigue eventually grinds things to a halt. Even in games that last 2+ years, it's very rare that I ever say "Welp, that was the end of the campaign. Good job everyone." So, Very Rarely.
