    OOTS 897

First of all, I don't think he's had that much more of this than any of several other characters, most obviously Roy and Elan. And secondly, did you not notice the part where it directly affects the main plot? At the end of the day, Rich will get criticisms no matter what he does, some more...

The 15 Best D&D Modules Of All Time

Any chance of getting to READ this as a text article, instead of watching it as a video? I'd usually rather do the former than the latter, especially when the video is, to be a bit blunt, this amateurish.

D&D 5E (2014) New Death and Dying Rules

Well, for one thing, because then you're moving the pivot-point that actually matters, i.e. the point where you're out of the fight, to some semi-arbitrary non-zero number that isn't even consistent from character to character. For the math-averse, if they're anything like the less...

D&D 5E (2014) New Death and Dying Rules

Wow... I would never have guessed that so many people had issues with negative hit points. I've literally never heard it suggested that they were a problem before, yet it seems to be the near-unanimous opinion in this thread that they're horrible and getting rid of them is a positive or even...

    OotS 889

You're still making assumptions about the plot role (or lack thereof) of these last few strips that aren't warranted. This is especially true given that after nearly 900 strips, Rich has yet to let us down in the ways people keep predicting.

Aaaaand now that the next strip is out, all the comments along these lines are looking right silly.

Winnipeg, Manitoba Looking for Basic D&D style game

As it happens, I'm a Winnipeger and interested in running a Basic Fantasy game, in fact I've been prepping one for some time. However, I don't know when this would happen as I feel like I barely have time to do justice to the games I already run, even with both currently on an every-other-week...

    yeah (Marvel Heroes going away)

No. In order to be lies, they would have to be intentional, or at the very least blatantly negligent. But in order to be falsehoods, all they have to be is false.

    yeah (Marvel Heroes going away)

I would assume he means building a character starting from essentially a blank piece of paper (i.e. out of the clear blue sky), without the guidance random elements and/or well-defined classes or templates can provide. However, this is just an educated guess and I too would appreciate some...

    [April] What are you reading?

Doing some Appendix N reading - currently I'm in the middle of both Stormbringer by Michael Moorcock and The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany. This, after several years of reading very little fiction, unless you count economics blogs.

    Giant in the Playground down?

I haven't been able to access it for a few days either.

What is the Highest Level You Have Reached From Level 1?

A game that started under house-ruled-beyond-recognition 2E and ended under 3.5 (note - I do NOT recommend changing systems in mid-campaign like that, and wouldn't do it again) reached about level 16.

Beyond Dungeon!: D&D boardgames and Talisman

The duration alone needn't be a problem, if you've got a game that can stay engaging through it. Talisman doesn't stay engaging. Heck, it often doesn't even start engaging. I've played it six or seven times because it was what the other people around me happened to be playing, and can honestly...

Hardest lesson to learn as a DM / GM?

The hardest thing to get right is pacing. I'm still only okay at it, I think.

Oots 870: Death in the Family

How is the bite and the comment about "children" not a dead giveaway (if you'll forgive the pun)? Vampire. I'm not even putting it in spoilery form because it seems to me this strip is supposed to make it obvious.

I need a new desktop computer - recommendations?

Ha! Not perfect, but much better. I don't know about baking, but a lot of the time one *is* better off with home cooking than restaurant cooking. Of course, one gets tired of doing that *every day*. I don't know anyone who buys a computer every day!

I need a new desktop computer - recommendations?

Very bad analogy. It does not take anywhere near the time or skill to put a computer together versus a house or car.

I need a new desktop computer - recommendations?

-shrug- Whether it's D&D rules or computers, I'm such an inveterate tinkerer that by the time I got an out-of-the-box Dell or HP machine set up the way I wanted it - if that turned out to be possible in the first place - I wouldn't have saved any time. Probably not money either - at this point...
