    D&D 5E (2014) Night Below 5E Conversion

King for a Day I ran this back in 1996, finished the whole campaign and set it in my homebrew world. The players loved it. When my friend from Post World Games, Jim Pinto, wanted to run an old-school D&D campaign, he asked me for my best reccomendation. I said The Night Below boxed set. He...

D&D 5E (2014) Tyranny of Dragons Player's Intro or Guide?

I thought back last year I saw a thread where someone posted a link to a little "Player's Guide" or Intro to the Campaign that they handed their players but can't find the thread. I'm not referring to the Adventurer's League Guide, but a homemade thing. This jar any memories? Thanks!

D&D 5E (2014) How often do you play?

I have a weekly Sunday night 5-hour game, characters are currently 9th level. I have a bi-weekly Saturday game with a pool of 25+ players who vote on a poll to get in a game, about 4-5 hours, most currently 5th level. I have a bi-weekly Wednesday "young adults" game where folks under age 22...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are DMs getting lazy?

    >>>For fear of sounding like an in-my-day curmudgeon, are DMs these days just too lazy to make the game their own?<<< Yeppers.

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

As someone who managed to maneuver my hobby budget for years to keep up with all new official products since, say 1995, there is great relief at this new release schedule. Without having to struggle, my gaming budget allotment is growing instead of shrinking, and I’m appreciating the books that...

D&D 5E (2014) Keeping track of monster abilities

3rd edition and it's legacies trained me to print out B&W pages of monster stats for any adventure because of the little abilities and defenses that were hidden amidst the numbers, skills and the like. I then go through each stat block with my handy-dandy rainbow set of highlighter pens and...

    Fifth Edition Foes Monster Book

It's 1e/2e/fiend folios and some from Dragon, White Dwarf and other sources, and a bunch of originals as well. I think they did a decent job taking the raw abilities and feel of each creature and interpreting it in 5e fashion. It's obvious a lot of thought was put into making the stats useful...

    D&D 5E (2014) What's the easiest way to start playing 5E?

Yep, Saltmarsh is fully fleshed out and detailed in 3.5's Dungeon Master's Guide 2.

    D&D 5E (2014) [5e +] So what are you currently doing with 5e

Currently running three games, all Forgotten Realms and RAW, to see how my groups like the new rules before meddling with them. Sunday Grognard weekly game: Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle and Scourge of the Sword Coast. "When we can" Wednesday young adults game: Lost Mine of Phandelver and now...

D&D 5E (2014) My group is questioning everyone.

Interrogations can be fun in small doses. I wrote an entire article on how to have fun with them with loads of ideas in Issue #22 of Kobold Quarterly because my players seem to take a prisoner once every session. It's not tied to any game system.

D&D 5E (2014) Feats removed from the PHB, for the last Playtest !

I don't know why they were removed but I'm glad I kept all the playtest documents. I'm letting my players choose from these and already have PCs with Archery Master and Druid Initiate with no rules issues at all.

D&D 5E (2014) Are the 5E playtest adventures worth buying?

Running a mash up right now of Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle and Scourge of the Sword Coast. My group is having a blast and enjoying them and they are good adventures all around. Stats from DragonSpear Castle are slightly outdated but I'm using them as is with no difference. Stats for Scourge are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Classic or just plain brilliant adventures/modules

Only because it hasn't been mentioned yet (surprisingly) is Vault of Larin Karr by Necromancer Games. The Night Below Campaign, or it's spiritual successor King for a Day. And another thumbs up for Madness at Gardmore Abbey. I never ran 4E but I sure loved this one and plan to use it in 5E.

    D&D 5E (2014) So who played 5E D&D recently?

Saturday night the players, in Neverwinter, went completely off the beaten path to follow an obscure plot hook to Helm's Hold. I just ran with it and the whole night the party didn't know it was planned all along because the DM 'prep' was literally done on the fly as we gamed. Last night the...
