    D&D 5E (2014) Using "D&D 2024" instead of "5e24"

Personally, I think of every (TT)RPG as a Dungeons & Dragons variant. (YMMV!)

WotC Milestone leveling in WotC editions?

I remember a lot of arbitrary and informal leveling-up in my early Basic and AD&D games. Some of the earliest I remember was essentially: “Well, you’ve cleared level 1 and are going down, so it’s time to level up to 2nd!” Advice in modules also vaguely suggested how/when leveling fit into the...

Or if you were approaching from somewhere perpendicular to Ceti Alpha's plane of the ecliptic? It's be silly to go around all that way just to come in from the edge of the plane as a courtesy.

My biggest nitpick about that movie would be that Ricardo’s obvious chest piece looks quite obvious. But… in a film commentary, the director insists that is Montalban’s unaltered chest. 😳

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

I worked as a half-time physician for years! It was great, and I highly recommend it as an essentially-full-time, about 40-hr-per-week, job. Most importantly, I had a home life, and I never burned out in the way that most of my “full-time” partners eventually did. There are more disincentives...

Assuming you're referring to the 1965 film... Today I learned: "Eisenhower came out of retirement and held a press conference to denounce the film for what he considered its gross historical inaccuracy." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Bulge_(1965_film)#Critical_response

I first watched ‘Fargo’ (the film) with my fellow Midwestern American friend… and his German girlfriend, on her first visit to the United States. He and I laughed uncontrollably throughout the movie - while she stared at us in complete befuddlement. She was particularly befuddled because she...

TIL that Ridley Scott’s The Duelists is not the same movie as Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel. And now I need to reassess a brief discussion of The Duelists (not, apparently, The Last Duel) ithat I listened to this week. 😲🤣

Yes! Americans need to better understand that Canada is only mostly a frigid northern wasteland. And that most Canadians huddle together in the other parts. ;) (I lived a couple of my earliest years in semi-remote, semi-frigid Argentia Newfoundland.)

The books “felt right” to me. But in my dreams I’ve often discovered plausible-seeming “forgotten” old D&D books in used book stores, etc., so YMMV.

I’ve held up on watching any more Stranger Things probably just before the events you’re describing. (I want the final series to be imminent before I watch any further.)

Did anyone actually watch Less Than Zero? I know more about 80’s movies and pop culture than is probably advisable, but I’d totally forgotten about it and have no memory of ever hearing anyone mention anything about the actual movie, ever.

Oh, and Stranger Things: 1) That’s not a 1970’s-80’s Millennium Falcon in Stranger Things. The engine stickers are wrong. And, 2) The Bangles’ Hazy Shade of Winter was 1987, and also had no business closing an episode set in 1983. Great song, and great show though.

In Titanic, Leo DiCaprio’s character references ice fishing on Lake Wissota, near Chippewa Falls Wisconsin. Lake Wissota did not exist until the river was dammed, years after the Titanic sunk. Incidentally, I once applied for a job to clean toilets, etc. for a summer at Lake Wissota - and...

OSR BECMI, how do you say it?

I used to call it Mentzer Basic or Red Box Basic… but eventually went along with everyone else around me who started calling it Beckme. But I’m only in a “younger generation” relative to those who cut their teeth on OD&D or 1970’s AD&D.

    How’s the Marmoreal Tomb?

[Nervously googles “clark a. peterson allegations”.] Well that’s disappointing. Also disappointing that I was relieved to find allegations that didn’t involve assault or abuse. EDIT: And then I came across that other, more awkward allegation. :( Idaho judge. Sigh.

    D&D General Dragon Talk?

That’s too bad, if true. I find those promo videos terribly stilted and uncomfortable to watch. (But that’s probably just me.)

    D&D General Dragon Talk?

My favorite Dragon Talk segments are the ones in which Chris Perkins, James Wyatt, or someone similar did a deep dive into the old, new, and/or obscure lore around something featured in their latest product. More of that would be perfect for what they have thus-far announced for the upcoming...
