5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

Yes frustrating. other workaround is to (I guess) tweak to say CHA +4 and say it applies to WIS saves...?

5E: Fifth Edition Monster Variants Inspired by Fourth Edition Sources

here is updated I can't change the WIS save bonus, nor can I denote (due to mad insight) after perception, so dunno what to do about those

all these look good (added detect and dispel to legendary actions too) - worth phantom boulder instead of standard rock throwing or as well as?

    The original Inhabitants of Cania...

It's undead as they are the ghosts of the ancient inhabitants of Cania from before the arrival of the devils, whose psychic essence uses ice to crystallise a physical form. Yeah, just chose sphinx to get started - will replace. Languages - their own + telepathy (another thing I forgot to...

Hmm...been thinking about this. Maybe just ditch rejuvenation as that is more in keeping with original storyline

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

One of the things I hated about 4e was the excessive homogenisation of all scores/rolls/bonuses/penalties. Variation is the spice of life (and the game) where certain creatures might have unexpectedly dangerous attacks or low/high ACs etc. As a compromise I'll cut a point off by reducing her...

Hmm. If he's wearing the crown, it doesn't make it a very safe phylactery then really. Alternatives (a) ditch rejuvenation, (b) crown "holds" the dodkong at 1hp for 1d4 rounds, during which time he is conscious and can try to escape or heal (? - this second one ditches idea of rehashing whole...

    The original Inhabitants of Cania...

okay how about Mindmerging. The black locust's psychic attacks are made at advantage, with saves against them at disadvantage, if two or more black locusts are within 5 feet of each other and neither is incapacitated. (could also call it Psychic Buff) Incidentally the sphinx spells look...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Okay - have gone with #3. On thinking about it, I like the DC24 save as it draws out PCs inspirations etc. The reason I like this beguiling as (in gameplay) the player doesn't miss a round of action with their PC charmed, but instead can carry on as usual - Baalphegor just "borrows" a reaction...

    The original Inhabitants of Cania...

Yes - maybe DC for spell save increases by 1 per arcane hexapod present. have to break out spells as unique spell-like attacks then I guess to make them unique (and also annull counterspell)

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

added this as a bonus action: Beguile. Baalphegor targets one creature she can see within 30 feet of them and who can see her. The target must make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the target uses their reaction, if available, to move up to their speed to a location chosen by...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

ok buffed total damage to 111/rd by doing this (gets it to CR 21 on calculator): Multiattack. Baalphegor attacks three times with her rapier, or twice with her rapier and once with twisting words Rapier. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d6 + 5) force damage...

    The original Inhabitants of Cania...

I was planning on ditching the legendary actions but left there so could replace with an equivalent So story goes there is an ancient city beneath the ice in Cania called Kintyre - my idea was something with a bit of a lovecraftian flavour. So millennia-old race of intelligent psychic...

ok buffing it like below gives me CR 18 (am I missing something or give her some more damage - or something more evasive/sneaky?)
