D&D General So how about alignment, eh?

This is similar to what drove me away from using alignment back in my AD&D days. It felt too easy to solve complex moral problems with a "Know Alignment" or "Detect Evil" spell. I usually include plenty of Obvious Evil in my games, but I want the majority of people and monsters to feel like...

D&D General Turgenev's Friday Freebie Maps

I don't know enough about architecture to have any idea why the diagonal columns would be superfluous. Is there no sort of vaulting where they would make sense? (Regardless, since all dungeons were created by mad wizards, we can deduce that this particular wizard was not an architect.)

I like that metaphor, too. The smith's underground home that I've been working on started that way. I just had the idea of a boulder covering a hole in a passage. Then it became a front door which meant that the occupant needed to be very strong. One thing led to another and now I have a cool...

D&D General So how about alignment, eh?

I dropped alignment in 1990 and never looked back.

All of this work counts! For sure. The spirit of this is simply to create new content for your game. Writing in-depth histories of everything around your dungeon is an awesome start. (I don't even know if the various areas that I've developed are in the same dungeon.) My only recommendation is...

Don’t overthink it. Just start sketching or writing and see where it goes. I love using random tables, but sometimes just a list of random adjectives (not specifically for gaming) will get my creative juices flowing.

Thanks! First time I’ve ever done it. Seemed like a good way to show the dragon’s perch above the stairs. Worked out better than I expected.

Thank you! I’m writing for my main D&D adjacent system, the Dungeon Fantasy RPG. (It’s a genre treatment of GURPS.)

Thanks. It's fun how these things come together. Initially it was a randomly generated map. Then I wanted to play around with the idea of low ceilings so I added some shading. I liked the idea of a monster dragging characters into a crack with less than a foot of clearance. Added the thoqqua...

1/21 — Glowing Chamber (map) Description: This area continues to require most delvers to stoop beneath a 4-foot ceiling. The southeast end of the central column has pinkish striations that glow dimly in the darkness. (These are actually a type of tiny fungus rather than a mineral.) Vision: -7...

1/20 — Dauðagrip Back Stoop (map) Description: This cave has a 4-foot ceiling. There are signs of a recent encampment along the eastern wall, including the remains of a small fire. The west nook has four small (~10 inch) holes in the wall. The remains of the body of a goblin lies beneath one of...
