I think that if they care, they should change it back. I don't think it's a destructive change to the game or something that merits hundreds of posts arguing about it.

Fortunately, the mechanical aspects of everything eventually ends up on A5E Tools so not owning the books isn't a barrier to their entry. It's definitely more crunchy and complicated than 2014 5E, but the power level is comparable. Regular 5E Adventures should work just fine.

I mean, that's entirely fair. In my case the space ogres are part of a larger orc army that the party have had periodic clashes with over the course of the campaign. I wouldn't use them as grunts for an unrelated faction, so I agree with you on that point.

I'm still not sure I understand. The PCs are stronger, it's not that the foes are weaker. The story justification is that the party is better at fighting things than they were 6 levels ago.

I think you're taking the terms a bit too literally. When I said the space ogre was a miniboss, I didn't mean that it was a commander with minions, I just meant that it was a hard enemy that the party had to focus down. A boss fight, not a liuetenant. It was always a mook as far as the leaders...
