    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

True, but that's a bit different than what we would call a 'security camera'. For one thing it's probably harder to spot.

    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

Not unless they're part of the adventure. I'm just saying "this is a medieval world" isn't a good reason. Even in the early modern world CCTV systems didn't exist, not until World War 2.

    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

I mean to be fair that sounds less like the problem is that the adventure is trash and more that the DM's off the cuff answer makes little sense.

    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

Well that's nonsense. We all like what we like, but you're taking art from an adventure that takes place in a particular time, setting, and even at a particular event and acting like that's just... what D&D is these days? Can you not see now disingenuous that comes across? Edit: It's like...

    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

But who considers it unusual? Presumably... high heels(?) or whichever other modern anachronism that supposed D&D purists want to make their hill to die on this time... aren't out of the ordinary for the world this adventure takes place in. A Lightning Rail would be remarkable on Greyhawk but...

    D&D General D&D: Literally Don't Understand This

You know, going back to the original post, you could probably find a random illustration from an adventure from any era of the game and just as easily have people saying "What does this have to do with D&D?" Heck, Barrier Peaks had robots. D&D has always contained multitudes.

D&D General Critical Role Season 4 and the Ship of Theseus

Honestly I'd prefer to keep it in D&D or at least a 5E derivative like Tales of the Valiant, if only because I don't have much interest in Daggerheart. That said I'm sure I'll watch it regardless.

Gate Pass Gazette Issue #42 is ruining an owlbear's day!

Judging by the height and underarm hair I'm pretty sure that's a deep gnome.

Forgotten Realms Books to Have Several Digital DLCs, Including One Featuring Asterion

So is Astarian misspelled in the original Game Informer article or is that a Christian Hoffer (TM) contribution? ;)

ToV Black Flag Reference Document (BFRD) Now in Creative Commons CC-BY 4.0

My understanding is, the ORC does what it does because so many people using the OGL just declared everything, including game mechanics, as product identity. The ORC's lack of wiggle room was specifically designed to keep the chain of open content open. The fact that it requires a lot more of...

ToV Black Flag Reference Document (BFRD) Now in Creative Commons CC-BY 4.0

It's kind of incredible how the release of the SRD into Creative Commons not only ended the OGL crisis but took the legs out from under the ORC License as well. I had planned to start publishing under ORC but

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Gladiator: The Narrative Dissonance

It's one reason I kind of miss the game going to level 30+ in the core like RC and 4E did. Levels 1-20 can be reasonbly common, it's the Epic tier that's vanishingly rare. By that time you're probably adventuring deep in the Hells or fighting archangels on the regular.

Woo. Glad to see it. Wish I could afford to sub and read my own article 😅

D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force and spells

Honestly Wall of Force doesn't need any help so I'd generally err on the side of whatever makes it less powerful. One time I held a Wall of Force until a pirate ship was about to broadside ours and then cast an angled wall of force between their vessel and ours. Bounced the cannon balls right...

D&D General What if the Wind Dukes of Aaqa were actually Djinn?

Zovvuts apparently originated in 3E and were more associated with Orcus. There's a 5E version in Monster Manual Expanded 2 but it's mechanically pretty weak (only 85 HP at CR7?) and the lore is... uh... 😬

D&D General What if the Wind Dukes of Aaqa were actually Djinn?

The First World stuff is still just mythology even in the canon. This is stuff that happened so long ago not even the gods themselves likely remember it clearly--it would be like making a coherent narrative out of a concert you sort of remember visiting when you were 10.

D&D General What if the Wind Dukes of Aaqa were actually Djinn?

I believe in 4E they were said to be some sort of angel allied with Bahamut but who knows what is and isn't still canon from 4E. Aqaa is definitely shown to be in the Elemental Plane of Air in 5E sources so Djinn makes about as much sense as anything. Though I do think it would be interesting...
